China sucks, get over it

1. Censorship out the ass.
Freedom of speech is non existent, freedom of press is also non existent, and censorship of the internet is ridiculous in China.
China's government largely regulates everything.

2. One child policy.
A policy that doesn't really work.
Doesn't this policy just make anyone cringe anyways? Anti-family as it gets.

3. Discrimination
China does not recognize same sex marriage or civil unions. Not only that, but transgenders are largely mistreated by China.
Also, this:
African students in China have complained about their treatment in China. Their complaints largely ignored until 1988–9, when 'students rose up in protest against what they called "Chinese apartheid'".[184] African officials took notice of the issue, and the Organization of African Unity issued an official protest. The organization's chairman, President Moussa Traoré of Mali, went on a fact-finding mission to China.[184] A 1989 report in Guardian stated: 'these practices could threaten Peking's entire relationship with the continent.'[185]

The United Nations reports that it has had difficulty in arranging official visits to China by UN Special Rapporteurs on various human rights issues

What a wonderful place to live.

4. It's Communist
Blah.

Feel free to chime in about how much China sucks. From it's smog covered cities, to the lack of basic human rights.

f*ck China.

When a country makes it difficult just for a discussion on human rights, it doesn't look good. ;)

Facilitating criticism from a UN Special Rapporteur =/= engaging in a meaningful discussion on human rights, as the US Government acknowledges when it too ignores the UN's moaning:

US law enforcement officials continue to urge major US Internet and mobile phone companies to weaken the security of their services to facilitate surveillance in the course of criminal investigations. In May, the UN special rapporteur on freedom of expression called on all countries, including the US, to refrain from weakening encryption and other online security measures because such tools are critical for the security of human rights defenders and activists worldwide.

Ditto the UK:

The duty imposed on certain categories of public officials, including teachers, to observe, record and report individuals they may consider “extremist” has led to undue restrictions on student union activities and the singling out of students from minority communities. In one instance, a 17-year-old student claimed he was targeted as he expressed his solidarity with the people of the State of Palestine by wearing a Palestine badge and scarf and distributing leaflets on the humanitarian situation there. The student was referred to the authorities under the Prevent strategy, and two police officers subsequently came to his house to question him on his views on Palestine, Israel and the Middle East.

...

The spectre of “Big Brother” is so large, in fact, that some families are reportedly afraid of even discussing the negative effects of terrorism in their own homes, fearing that their children would talk about it at school and have their intentions misconstrued.

Gee, even though we're pushing it, looks like China has been practicing for quite awhile now.

The personal dignity of citizens of the People's Republic of China is recognized and protected under Article 38 of the Constitution. Further, the freedom and privacy of correspondence of citizens of the People's Republic of China are protected; however Article 40 provides some significant limitations to such rights – where state secrets or a criminal investigation is involved, police and other authorities can intercept communications as necessary. The expansive concept of “state secret” gives the government supreme power in reviewing and monitoring of communications as necessary.

Oh no, but in America we do this, or America we do that, so everyone loses their shit.
Piss off.

Attempts to troll about how terrible China is.
Realizes China's not actually that different form anywhere else (including America).
Rage quits.

Report out from this year (not the 1980s) about the violent and abusive treatment ethnic minorities are subjected to by British police:

Stop and search is often the most confrontational encounter a young person will have with the police. When a search is not carried out with basic levels of decency and sensitivity, it can have a lasting effect on a young person and can make him feel ‘victimised’, ‘humiliated’, even ‘violated’.

Young BAME people express feelings of being harassed and provoked by police officers who are sometimes perceived to want to ‘trip them up’ and escalate an encounter to a stop and search.

Young BAME people we spoke to also made clear they felt that police often made incorrect assumptions about them, sometimes about their clothing or their behaviour, but most often because of their ethnicity.

Young BAME people’s perceptions of stop and search have a powerful impact on their overall impression of, and trust in, the police. Nearly two fifths of young BAME people have less trust in the police because of what they know about stop and search.

Not entirely sure why you continue deflecting to other countries when it's becoming abundantly clear that China fucking blows and isn't the amazing "free and progressive" country you want it to be.

I urge you to become a resident there. Become a Chinese citizen, and if this website isn't censored over there, tell us about your life over there in a few years time. I'm 100% positive you'll bitch and whine about it being awful.

mrswdk's favorite artist just got banned from China.

To its list of hostile foreign forces - one assumes ranking somewhere below the Dalai Lama and Taiwanese separatists - China has added the name Justin Bieber.
