The Barbarian. Is on Netflix Canada. I think I liked the Destroyer even better. I don't think it is on there.

I have watched them both in the last week. Showtime has em. They are both pretty decent.

the Robert E Howard books are really good.
As is the Savage Sword comic.(until they got away from the book).

The character "Conan" in the movie is not the same Conan that Howard wrote.
The movies couldnt even get the way Howards Conan swung his sword. lol

Peter Jackson is the guy to do the movies. duh

I think I finally caught the reboot. I think it was OK but these Arnold ones are classics. I probably shouldn't have watched them as a kid but still.

I LOVED the conan books...much like the Gor books.

I saw that arnie conan when it came out... I left the theater. Just absolutely horrible. NO WAY he could be conan....#1 he towered over all other humans...whats arnie? 5' 8"? lol. Now the Rock....he could cut it.....

awsome, someone that knows how bad those movies really where.
like jar jar in star wars bad.
lots of people liked jar jar tho.

imo the main thing they got wrong about conan, there was alot, but the main thing, was conan was a VERY smart cookie.
i laffed when the audience laffed at conan punching the camel.

Little do they know conan out drank his entire crew when he saw the warship(forget which country) approach, his crew was so drunk they wouldnt wake up even when he booted them, he stood alone and killed how many men...7? or was it more, before they brought him down.
NO EFING WAY would conan ever be drunk enough to punch a camel.

what people dont know is just how good the conan story is, what a friggin missed opportunity those movies were.

Seeing this thread gave me the idea to ask Jackson to do Conan, couldnt find his email, only twitter, which I dont have.
ya never know, maybe Ill run across it.

Arnie's height is a closely guarded secret. Most estimate 5'11".

When he did those movies he still had most of his Mr. Universe bulk, though, so he was a pretty imposing figure.

I thought the directors did a shitty job on those movies, but Arnie himself could have been Conan with better direction.

Have you read the books? Just not possible, IMHO. Arnie too slow, stupid, short, not imposing (regardless of muscle). Conan was a favorite of Crom and basically a demigod his own self....not to mention a cornucopia of other reasons....assuming, of course, they wanted to remain true to the books....which they obviously did not. I just can't get past that in any book based movie.

And I'll add that I LIKE Arnie.....just not as Conan...lol

Anyway.....

ps...my cousin sat next to Andre the Giant on a plane once...he had 2 seats and was still stuffed in there. He was super nice to her.....

I dont think there was anything "wrong" with the movies, the main character just wasnt Conan, so, wrong title is all.

I'm guessing Derick the barbarian just didn't stay as working title for very long.

NO, just a strip in a magazine. Actually. a few one-panel jokes. It gets less impressive as I go on, doesn't it?
