The US’ most recent failure to intercept a missile after shooting an interceptor from Hawaii led to diminished confidence in the country’s ballistic missile defenses. A new report adds insult to injury: the test cost $130 million to complete.

The Missile Defense Agency revealed Tuesday that the unsuccessful interception on January 31, a trial run that tested a SM-3 missile from an Aegis test site, cost $130 million.

The developmental SM-3 interceptor cost $36 million while the dummy intermediate range missile ran $40 million. The rest of the expenses were incurred from using the Pacific Missile Range facility, utilizing multiple radars and sensors and compensating the 350 personnel required to carry out the test, according to the Missile Defense Agency.

Failed US Ballistic Missile Interception? That Will Cost $130 Million

So after all it turns out that Kim Jong-un can harm US mainland
Bernie Sanders is your nuclear shelter equipped with appropriate toilet and solid toilet ventilation... or you will use diapers

lol, $130m to play target practice with a missile?

Give it 3 months until Japan joins S Korea in cutting off the American paw that grips it.

Not cheap and also faulty.

Should've gone with Made in China:

China said it has successfully tested a mid-course anti-missile defence system within its own territory.

Mid-course interception involves destroying a ballistic missile while it is flying in space before re-entering the atmosphere.

$130 million is the gross domestic value of Macedonia. Thank God that the young girls that are exported by your country are sending money back home to feed their families there.

Fake news. This wasn't the actual american missile system failing, this was merely a new type of missile still in development. To quote your own article:

"This was a developmental and operational test of a new capability and utilizes a missile variant not yet in production,"

WTF Sputnik News??? I couldn't read more propaganda. You and Mrs ought to team up and be the ultimate propagandist. China-Russia double team. Bernie would get a raging boner for the first time in 20 years.

Don't panic.

They were only testing something new. The US&A has other defenses against Kim's mop attacks.

Russia has a much better missile intercept system. They don't go for a kinetic hit, their ABM missiles are all equipped with low-yield nuclear warheads. So, their ABM missile only has to get within the vicinity of the incoming missile and detonate, whereas American ABM missiles have to hit the incoming missile precisely.

The U.S. used to use the same system until environmentalists made a fuss.

Hilarious to think the U.S. actually had a fully functioning and accurate ABM system in the 1970s with SAFEGUARD. We now have less capability in 2018 than we had in 1978.

This is true of a lot of things. Equipment is sort of improved in some ways.

Bernie Sanders wrote:$130 million is the gross domestic value of Macedonia.

Are you sure? Never mind but how will Macedonia's gross domestic value save you from Kim?

Some versions of SM-3 are already operational. I guess this one is updated version that will have to stop all North Korean missiles...
After all for efficient counterattack North Koreans need 5-10% of their nuclear missiles to be able to pass the US missile defense. Not being able to achieve 100% efficiently is more or less equal to defeat for the Americans.

So your stance is, if a missile makes it to US soil, then they unload retaliatory missiles and North Korea becomes a radioactive smoldering hole.

Kim can declare victory?

Kim is declaring victory even now

But look at it this way... US already looks stupid for even bothering with North Korea, if it gets nuked(once is enough) whole world will lough ;)

And the U.S. wouldn't even be in this position if the U.S. hadn't attacked Libya.

Bush told Qaddafi if he got rid of his nuclear program the U.S. would leave him alone. He got rid of it and Obama promptly killed him.

So OFC Kim won't get rid of his nukes. Trump is having to clean up the Bush-Obama mess.

Trump has quite a mess to clean up himself. Mueller is going to help when he ties a noose around his neck.

They can already. N-Korea might have ballistic missile capabilities now, but they're nowhere close to what countries like the US are used to. There is a reason why Russia feels the need to build faster missiles. The american missile defense system is aimed at defense against China and Russia, both of whom are decades ahead of N-korea.

The americans are just using this as an excuse to justify military interventionism and yet again expand their military expenditures.
