I worked with a fellow once. He told a story about meetting someone who had ten kids or something. He asked that guy, "Why do you have so many kids?" The healthy breeder replied, "I want to be immortal. I'll live on through my descendants." The fellow asking the question told him, "Immortality only lasts three generations for you, huh?"

Then explained how after your grand children pretty much nobody will remember you. He demonstrated the theory with three questions about your grand father's father.

I only remember two currently.

What did he do for a living?
What was his favorite drink?

Mine was a pipefitter AFTER he lost his white collar office job during one of the smaller depressions. He went to work each day will a sandwich and never complained. The rest were farmers.

A pipefitter is a tradesperson who installs, assembles, fabricates, maintains and repairs mechanical piping systems.

I wish! However, I am one of the many people who have more than one great great grandad (and indeed great grandads). I am also one of the many people who don't have Emily Pankhurst as a great grandfather.

The Ram- how do you feel about kids having two granddads? How about two dads?

My Mum's dad was brought up in an orphanage, so the trail ends there.
My Dad's mother died when she was 30, and although I have met some of that side of the family, the only thing I remember about various discussions when i was a kid is that my curls come from that side of the family,
My Mum's Mum's father was a cockney, worked in the docks.
My Dad's Dad's father I met when I was very little, but I only have an impression of a long beard, which may just be a false memory. I think he worked in the Metal Box factory, like a lot of my family.

Incidentally, my grandmother on Mum's side had a profession she was proud of before she had to quit to look after six kids - she was an Ostrich Feather Curler, bending them to make an adornment for women's hats.

My great grandad was a hard drinking seaman from Tyneside. My other great grandad was a navvi from the Wirral. Good working class northern stock!

My grandfather's grandfather on my dad's side was an olive picker in Greece before he emigrated to America. My grandfather's grandfather on my mom's side was a slave-owning plantation owner from Alabama. Obviously I'm super proud of both of them.

Tony Blair only told the nation to get in touch with their feminine side so he could get away with cottaging, without being fined again. It's not right and you know what I think already. Stop trolling me.

Weird that you interpreted it that way.

Sym, I give you permission to talk about as many of your grandfathers as your heart desires.

you have permission to kidnap this thread too and make it all about you and your pointless discussion with someone else about something irrelevant to the original topic.

Yes every thread I make or post in, he tries to turn into a debate about homosexuality. He's obsessed, probably looks up to me but you can't blame him for that.
