The popular rebellion erupted out of nowhere on Nov. 17 and has spread quickly via social media, with protesters blocking roads across France and impeding access to shopping malls, factories and some fuel depots.

On Saturday, some targeted the Arc de Triomphe, chanting “Macron Resign” and scrawling on the facade of the towering 19th-century arch: “The yellow vests will triumph.”

You're kidding yourself if you think this is civil war. There were 130.000 people protesting in France last friday. That's nothing. In Belgium we've had 100.000 people protesting in the streets when a right wing government was formed and the left didn't like it. 130.000 across all France is tiny.

This is nothing but a political statement from sides that just can't accept they lost the elections. When Trump won, left wing voters protested against him. Did Trump give in? No, he won the election, they lost. It's as simple as that. In France's case, the center won, and now the extremes(far left and far right) are protesting. These people are just unable to accept the democratic result.

Correction. It's not the "left and right", it's only the far-left and far-right that are protesting, and their numbers are starting to drop significantly.
