Chile police shoot protestors, Westerns don't care

Weeks of protests against the Chilean government increasing subway fares have resulted in 11 people dying in arson attack, repeated looting of businesses, and the police using tear gas and live rounds against protesters. Similar to the authorities in Hong Kong, the Chilean government have responded by imposing a protest ban, although that has so far failed to stem the violent confrontations:

The number of people killed in violent protests against rising living costs in Chile has risen to 11, Santiago Governor Karla Rubilar said on Monday.

The unrest, sparked by a now suspended metro fare hike, widened to reflect anger over living costs and inequality.

There had been 70 "serious incidents of violence", including 40 lootings of supermarkets and other businesses. Two people also suffered gunshot wounds after a clash with police, officials say.

Some 10,500 police and soldiers have been deployed on the streets, he added, while officials report more than 1,400 arrests.

Because these riots happened in Chile, a country considered 'okay' by Western propaganda media and governments, the Chilean authorities' response has so far attracted none of the condemnation or message broad cry baby-ing that the Hong Kong protests have attracted though. Will the imperialist hypocrisy end soon or will its treatment of two almost identical situations continue to diverge? I won't be betting any money on the former!

I've always noticed that Americans fear China.

That's basically it. China is powerful therefore everything it does is a reason to hate it. Other countries are not powerful so they don't get caught up in the American propaganda machine.

How are protests in China about what happened in Chile going? ...Because the Chinese people are so passionate about this issue. I mean at least China is consistent in that they don't care about anyone outside of Asia.

Here's what the mich-maligned Mr Corbyn has to say.

The killing of peaceful protesters by the military in Chile is deeply disturbing.

The people of Chile rid itself of a fascist military junta in 1990 and they cannot return to those dark days.

Their demands are legitimate and represent the concerns of people around the world.

Meanwhile,

Chilean president Sebastián Piñera revealed that last Thursday he had a phone call from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and they discussed bilateral issues.

Today I received a phone call from our friend Boris Johnson, new British prime minister. We talked about his participation in COP 25 (*), COP Blue, the free trade agreement with Chile and the coming meeting we will be having at G7, Brexit and the close friendship and collaboration between our countries“, tweeted Piñera.

Well exactly.

The rioters have the support of Corbyn - sidelined by the political establishment, British voters and even half his own party - and a deafening silence from the leader of the UK as well as the leaders of all other major UK political parties, media and commentators.
