I don't see an attribution for your quote. What's the quotation part of my poem?

Sorry, I didn't know it was a poem.

I thought it was a cut-and-paste from some article and parts of the lines were missing.

I guess poetry excuses the odd line breaks.

There’s no indication that what was written was a poem.

It looks more like some monkey got to the keyboard and luckily there some real words mixed in with a bunch of random letters and spaces.

Duk I forgive you for making the assumption you made, as the assumption I made was worse.

Now… knowing it’s poetry… I can offer my opinion as such.

IMHO it sucks and makes no sense.

(Of course I’m not your target audience as I think most poetry sucks.)

But you might have all been more familiar than that with Philip Larkin's This Be The Verse and recognised something of the style of ee cummings in my layout, and since you couldn't make sense of it as prose, I am taking the lame feedback as a culture fail for the forum. There is also some evidence from my earlier posts that I can quote and I'm not that illiterate. It's a very good poem in my book, I just thought it might have been nice to try it on you here, since I'm locked down. Ah, well.

I know a bit about ee cummings and enjoy his poems. I do not recognize nor enjoy what you claim is your poetry. And you did not immediately identify it as such when questioned about it by Duk soon after you posted it. Lame feedback? I disagree; rather, what has been posted is accurate description of your bad poetry. Culture fail? Yes, failure to appreciate your version of a bad poem.

Alright, thank you for the confirmation about your enjoyment of cummings, and the time you took to provide a critique. Sweet of you. :)

Happy New Year!

I read about Philip Larkin; he was a very good poet.

His relationship with women was far more interesting:

I still think that if you had initially identified your post as poetry, it may have gotten a better reception here in this Forum thread. There is irony that you posted your poetry in the thread called: "At least we can all agree on…"

Now that you know it is poetry, feel free to comment on it. The days when we were unclear if it was poetry are gone. If I am not an idiot, the irony is not one for you to declare; it is your becoming the subject.

I will give your suggestion some thought before I post here.

I speak, for I am God who created all that exists.

I understand many things, many think I am old and old fashion to think why the way things are. There is a lack of me the one true God in people's lives. I am given no credit for life today. Many think life is something you throw away. Life is precious and fragile and should not be taken for granted. One's life is very valuable in the eyes of God. One’s life should be just as valuable to the person. Every person was created in the image and likeness of God Himself. How special is that! Knowing I thought so much of a person to create that person. Lo, I am God the Creator and maker of life that exist. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the eyes of God Himself.

Go now.
For I am God.

So the poet, JdeV, has identified this as a poem. That is fine, although the clarification came a bit late.

I read poems by ee cummings and a few others, but not by Philip Larkin.

Having done that and giving this some thought, I have a few questions for the poet, and some observations and comments:

1) If poetry has no rules for syntax, punctuation, form, or rhyme, how does the common person like me recognize it as poetry?
2) Why misspell "werse"? (I assume it stands for worst).
3) Why end the poem with "there r"? It seems a misspelled word, a shortened version (of "there are"), an incomplete thought, or a typo. Perhaps it is meant to stimulate thought; I am not sure it does.
4) You apparently refer to ONE storm, then discuss "storms in california"
5) The summary, for me, and the central idea in your poem is that storms are helpful for some and harmful for others. The same can be said for many other events in nature and in the world.
6) I am of the opinion that poetry is aimed at a small audience and most people do not bother to read it, much less trying to understand most of it. My recollection is that most poets die very poor financially as they do not produce best sellers while they are alive.
7) The one guy on CC who could likely give you some decent feedback no longer posts on CC these days.
