Lia Thomas, a transgender member of the the University of Pennsylvania women's swim team, has broken every women's swimming record in the history of Penn athletics in just one year! (This would not have been possible under the fascist regime of Trump.)

Lia Thomas, a 22-year-old trans woman from Pennsylvania, is breaking numerous college records in swimming. Thomas—who's competing as a senior after the Ivy League establishment canceled the previous swimming season due to the pandemic—won three events and swam the fastest time in the country in two of those races. On Friday, she won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:34.06, setting a new record, Akron pool record, Penn school record, and the Ivy League record.

This season is the first time Thomas—who was previously named Will—has competed in the swimming in the University of Pennsylvania's women's team. But Lia is persisting and resisting!

Unfortunately, there are a number of transphobic, pro-Trump, white supremacists within women's swimming who are weaponizing their privilege.

The second Penn swimmer to come forward was at the University of Akron Zippy Invitational where she watched Lia Thomas beat fellow teammate Anna Kalandadze by 38 seconds in the 1650 freestyle. OutKick’s source described Penn swimmers on the Akron pool deck as upset and crying, knowing they were going to be demolished by Thomas.

"They feel so discouraged because no matter how much work they put in it, they’re going to lose. Usually, they can get behind the blocks and know they out-trained all their competitors and they’re going to win and give it all they’ve got," the source said.

Friday, Thomas set a new 500 freestyle Ivy League record. Saturday saw Thomas touch the wall in the 200 freestyle, which is now the nation’s fastest time in the event. And then there was the 1650 that left fans in disgust.

"Usually everyone claps, everyone is yelling and cheering when someone wins a race. Lia touched the wall and it was just silent in there," OutKick’s source said during a phone interview.

"When [Penn swimmer] Anna [Kalandadze] finished second, the crowd erupted in applause."

OutKick’s source said that after the 200 freestyle, Thomas could be overheard bragging.

"That was so easy, I was cruising," Lia Thomas allegedly said.

I don’t care what you want to call yourself, or how you want to identify your gender… I don’t care who you (consensually) have sex with, or how you dress, or how you want to modify your own body.

What all of this means is that the Department of Education is reminding public schools throughout the country that Title IX requires them to ensure that all transgender students feel safe on the playing fields.
