I mean for an emergency, not talking about bigtoughralf eating his way through the neighborhood falafel stands until he's 900 pounds.

For saxi, it's 90 days. I thought about one year but, first off, I don't have the room to store it.

Then I looked at the possible scenarios that would require 1+ years and I could only think of five: asteroid impact, major nuclear war, Yellowstone eruption, hyperinflation, wholesale collapse of the U.S. Government.

In three of those (asteroid impact, major nuclear war, Yellowstone eruption) even a year wouldn't be sufficient as you'd need to have pretty substantial hydroponics capabilities. It just seemed cheaper to buy ammo instead, that way I can take whatever I want from people who do have hyrdroponics. As far as wholesale collapse of the U.S. Government, there's a chance I might be involved in that so not as worried.

I think 90 days is good to cover earthquake, inclement weather, limited nuclear war, nuclear terrorism, mookiemcgee trying to crash at my place uninvited, civil unrest, volcano, lahar, tsunami, EM pulse, and spontaneous accelerated dolphin evolution.

Whatever happens to disrupt food supplies so badly that shops are bare will either get addressed within a matter of days or be so severe that a stockpile isn't really going to save you. bigtoughralf therefore shops several times a week and only buys what he needs each time.

He also rises above snarky comments made about his alpha physique by cucked soyboys.

I do quite like the idea of some sort of societal collapse leading to a Fallout-style royal rumble though.

After Hurricane Ida, stores were closed for a week and that wasn't even the worst!

I had my food stockpile up to about two months, but since moving in with my fiancée with limited space I've been downsizing. Consequently, been letting the stockpile decline quite a bit.

I'm still convinced the apoc will be of the Zombie variety so I'll just eat brains. No point in stockpiling food i won't want

If imports were stopped does your country have 6 months of food?

a well-carved deer has 100,000 calories which is the equivalent of two months sustenance, so you should be good in any circumstance short of a large-scale nuclear war where the topsoil of your garden may be irradiated and your chickens and the deer and turkeys may also become inedible for a period of time

however, the 50,000 rounds of ammo is a game changer

I read, but I don't know if it's true, that the U.S. has about two months of food in personal kitchens, grocery stores, and excess military reserves. Then there's also an average of one years worth of food awaiting export that could be embargoed and held back.

However, if the Yellowstone Caldera erupts, a lot of the export-ready food stores would be destroyed, and the major wheat-growing areas would be leveled. On the other hand, there'd also be less people.
