Nicknames

Postby jimboston on Sat May 20, 2023 9:41 am

Let’s share our real-life nicknames… both past and present. If you want you can tell the story behind the nickname.

I’ll start. I don’t really have any nicknames currently but some past nicknames.

“Jumbo” - Just a version of Jim… Jimbo becomes Jumbo. I’m a big guy so it’s an easy nickname.

“Candy” and later “Candymon”

“Scarface”

I will share the reasons for the other nicknames if this thread is popular and people also share theirs.

My family nickname was 'Gag' because my brother (about 18 months old when I was born) tried to say my name, Gareeth, and came out with 'Gagga'. The name was much revived later when I owned a shop called 'A Gaggle of Games' - the customers I'm still in touch with still call me 'Gag'.

Well Gag, looks like no one wants to join in.

Everyone says they want more posts that avoid politics and religion… but “actions speak louder than words”.

Does it ever occur to you that other people don't have the luxury of a laid-back office job and can't necessarily join in at a time convenient for you?

I was actually planning to post in this thread, but then I was waylaid by needing to post in the Jesus thread, and I only have time for one or two major posts a week.

Funnily enough my nickname at school was also Jumbo, although that was due to my enormous penis.

My most common nicknames have been some variation on Duke, Grand Duke, or Dukasaur. It's vaguely similar to my real name, so it was a natural. Some people started calling me Duke in Grade 9. Then, in Grade 10, I ran for Student Council V.P., and my campaign manager thought Grand Duke sounded, well, grander. Except his spelling wasn't the greatest, so he spelled it Grande Duke, and that's the way it appeared on my campaign posters. Far from being upset, I thought Grande Duke was even Grander than Grand Duke, so I was quite happy with the change.

In Grade 11, I started packing on the pounds, and some of my friends started teasing me and calling me Brontosaur. It was just natural linguistic drift that led to Grande Duke and Brontosaur being conflated to Dukasaur.

Other variations have included Deuce, Goose, and Caboose.

In Grade 7, they called me Einstein, because I was too smart to be cool.

In Grade 8, one of my classmates started calling me kaibo. Luckily, it didn't stick.

lol...so, jimbo, we HAVE to be excited about this single non-political thread? Dork.

And DoD, your bestest nickname is obviously the Duck of Death! Come on!!

The only nick that's stuck thru the years for me is Bear / Bare, as it's (phonetically) the short version of my name, Barrett. And, sadly, the associated "Grin and bear it"......sigh.

My loving bride of 35 years still calls me Stud Puppy on occasion

You have to wonder about a guy who exposes his penis while a child at school. This may explain lots about smallsoftralph.

Outside of al American Emirates it's fairly regular for people to bath communally in some settings, including during school sports.

jp is probably one of those guys who changes his underwear under his towel to avoid the other men in the changing room seeing even a glimpse of his ass.

I never said you HAD to be excited about anything in particular.

I was making a valid observation.

Up until the 1970’s in this area… many public swimming pools had separate times for boys and girls, and they required you swim nude if you wanted to swim.
