Slave trade has never really gone away, anywhere in the Third World.
I've met people who were slaves in Abu Dhabi. And Romania. And Mozambique.
Not much anyone can do about it there. We can barely do anything about it here. There are sex workers who are effectively in slavery right here in our world, but when they're too scared and/or brainwashed to testify, not much the cops can do about it. And that's in a First-world country with a solid tradition of rule of law, and while we can chip away at the problem, we can't make it go away completely. In other countries where the rule of law is weaker, it's that much more difficult.
