1. 'Merica is full of patriotic people proud of thier country.
Kanata is full of people that are only proud that they think they are smarter than americans and may get treated better when they travel.

Canadians think all americans are just like Hitman. They relish in telling stories about that sort of thing.

It's been 95F on and off for a couple of weeks here.

In summer the sun doesn't set until late so as you head north it can get toasty.

Bravo for dispelling the rumor that it's cold all the time in Canada.

It's NOT!

More proof that the US and Canada are *practically* the same country.

After all, I have proof that Detroit is further north than Canada is.

They should be.

The differences are mostly small.

Canadians will thank a server in a restaurant, some americans must do that.

Health care is free but it's quality is sporadic like america's. If you have the means you can buy better here or there.

I'm in Kanata right now. It's just outside of Ottawa, actually.

O, and two completely different countries my dear btownmeggy.

Canada and America are similar, however we are distinct from the Americans. Canada has stricter gun control, America is much more lenient. Canada's national dish is Poutine, America's is apple pie. America has much tighter national security than Canada. Canada has free health care. America is in at least one war every decade, Canada not so often. In Canada we are required to learn French/English (barely), in America you only need to speak English. America is much more developed, Canada has huge expanses of undeveloped land. We create brilliant actors, musicians, and comedians, America steals them from us. The list goes on and on. We are very different from the USA and we take pride in that. To even suggest we are the same country is insulting to me. But to be fair, I'm a Canadian nationalist, so my opinion is a little biased.

Lets do a little comparison

Canada
Cold country
Multi party political system
After the sponsorship scandal, a new government was elected
More taxes
According to wikipedia, less fat
1 tier health sytem, although privatized health care is on the rise
30 million people
Peace keeping nation
From my experience, dont have that as much national pride as Americans
Better insurance poicies
Only two major population centres - Windsor-Quebec corridor, and Vancouver area
Signed treaties for independence from the British
Has no death penalty

United States
Warm country, especially down south
2 parties (i think), democrats and republicans
Bush was elected twice in a row
Less taxes
According to wikipedia, more fat
300 million people
2 tier health system
Huge army and is currently in Iraq
From my experience, have more national pride then Canadians
Insurance policies arent always that good
Many major population centres
Fought for independence from the British
Has death penalty in some states

There is no way we are similar to the Americans!!!

(i'll keep adding to the list if I think of more things)

And America is partly Spanish, Mexican, Italian, Irish and British in others.

as for us being descended from europeans, i wasn't really sure whether to say british or spanish or something, because i don't believe in americans as mixed of many different cultures, or, er, ancestors.

Why do Canadians complain about being mistaken for being American when they speak?

Surely, if you don't want to be mistaken for being American, you'd speak with a different accent, or something.
