Most Brits would go with "smoking a fag" if anything, and football is a game you play with a ball, with your feet. I feel English is the way forward on those fronts.

Yeah, say the first one here in the US, wrong person hears that, you could be in court facing hate crime charges before you could blink.

By the way, do you guys have any British name for cigars? If not, I feel that "cigarettes" is more appropriate then, since it basically means a smaller cigar.

The first one was just to make a double meaning. And for the second, do I look american?

I'm not sure that "I'm French" is a good argument to make with Brits or Americans, to be franc.

You either have problems to understand stuff, or you have a disability to read something without arguing.

Watching the French play football can be very confusing
as there seems to be a lot of flopping involved.

I'm also wondering if there is any legitimate reason
why the World Cup can't be played at the level seen
in the Premiere League.

Funny cause the only thing americans seem to know about football is world cup and premier league. The premier league is trully over rated in america, pretty funny. The toughest and most prestigious and entertaining competition is by far the champions league, but since some dude must have sold well the tv rights of the premier league..
Oh and the most under rated championship is the german bundesliga. Best stadiums, awesome supporters, some of the best european teams, tight competition generally until the end.

To answer your question; to see football played at a higher level during a world cup you need to see other teams than the USA.

It was a recent Premier League match that impressed me with great pace, crisp passing and unselfish play that actually made it worth watching. During the World Cup I've tended to watch all the "best" nations compete and have been generally disappointed. Not that there aren't good matches, it just seems less consistent is all. I will watch for the Champions League.

well actually this will really depend ovo; but i think that is the case in any sport. you can watch your favorite sport and be bored to death or really enthousiastic about the "show". english teams in their league tend to be "all about the win" whereas in a world cup, which is played only every 4 years; the players have a whole country of pressure behind them, and they play not to lose and just stay alive in the competition. Also clubs play much more games together and are more of a team that national teams..
Like if you have the NBA all stars playing together, even if they are the best players of the league, if they play games for the basketball world cup they won't be as good as if you put the roster of the current NBA champion I'd say...

Tip? Put a rubber on it.

Tip 1: "Rubber" means "eraser" in English.
Tip 2: If you're a Brit kid in a US school, don't tell them you have a teddy. It doesn't mean what they think it means.
Tip 3: If you're in the reverse situation, avoid using "pants" and "fanny".

Yay for culture shock.

That's mostly a southern thing that I am not a fan of.

Not only is it a mainly southern thing, but white gravy is pretty much exclusively a breakfast item...brown gravy is still commonplace.

Note the wording: "pretty much exclusively"...There are a few things that do make use of it outside of breakfast, but not many...and, on the flip side, there are a few southern breakfast dishes that make use of gravy [real, brown gravy, that is]...grits and grillades is one example of something distinctly gravy-like.
