Songs to clear a room with

You're holding a party and you've been serenading the guests with the Beach Boys Greatest Hits, Revolver, etc. Pick your poison. Anyway, it's getting late and you want to get everyone out of there. Maybe it's time for you to take your turns at CC. So what do you put on the stereo? Remember, you want to pick music you'd actually listen to. Otherwise you're driving yourself nuts as well with your sister's Backstreet Boys CD, and that's no good.

My picks:

European Son (Velvet Underground); Most people would pick Sister Ray, but the sound effects and a vocal you can actually hear with clarity (all the more frightning for the unsuspecting guests?) give this one the manic edge needed to do the trick.

Love In A Faithless Country; You don't even need to listen to the lyrics for this one to make you seriously depressed.

Anything by Jandek; This guy can turn any mood to one of apathetic indifference and extreme nilism.

Wiggle Wiggle (Bob Dylan); Ok, Dylan's my favorite artist of all time, and UTRS is one of my favorite albums. I like this song a lot. But to admit so is to suggest an extreme lapse of taste in most quarters. Oh well.

Rise (PIL); I think it was actually a fairly big hit in the UK, but most of the people I know think that my stereo malfunctioned.

Nookie (Sex Pistols); This is the one track to test how committed those "punks" are who say they're rebellious and all. If there was justice in the world, Glen Matlock would be remembered, not Sid.

Cross Wires (XTC); This song always cheers me up, primarily because laughter is the only sane response to the absurdity of this track. Gotta love Colin.

You can't walk out on your own party! You have to be a good host!

...a good host trying to get people out of the house?

OK, just cover your ears... and nose... and eyes... and make sure the music doesn't find its way up your ass...

Even AMG slammed them on the ratings; usually most artists manage at least one four star record!
