Well, they dont give it post-humously...but he does deserve one.

I dont think the Nobel prizes should be an annual thing. It makes it easier for people to get, and means that doing something exceptional for 1 year could get you it.

He was nominated four times whilst alive.

And its not exactly a scout badge. You have to do something if lasting and genuinely international benefit. Anyhow, you don't set out to win the pace prize...

'Hey, this year I'm going to win the nobel peace prize... I'll go help Africa for a bit and, after they've given it to me, I'll do one home and say "Fooled you! Thanks for the trophy wiseguys!"... That'll work'

Also, is it insane because he's spreading a message which a certain number of people don't agree with? How dare he... and how dare most of the other winners who've done exactly the same goddamn thing.

the nobel peace prize has a lot of instances where it doesn't make much sense such as kissinger, arafat/rabin.. the problem with al gore winning this prize is that there are so many other scientists and advocates who have worked for a longer period of time to raise awareness, and it is unfair that they are getting shut out because al gore has a bigger public presence. making one movie and book about global warming does not a nobel peace prize make

in this situation the difference between gore and those scientists is that al gore is able to raise more awarness because of his political position to the average person than most scientists would be able to, irrespective of the fact the scientist may have done more than mr. gore did.
