WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday came out against granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, after weeks of pressure in the presidential race to take a position on a now-failed ID plan from her home state governor.
... 2 weeks ago she was all for it.
... Don't they (politicians) make you sick?
<edit> Actually, to correct myself, 2 weeks ago she lauded the idea without actually saying she was all for it. Poll-Driven Politics and Platforms ...

Isn't it the presidents job to follow the polls? Every time someone says that a president just does what's popular I always think "isn't that the point?" Presidents who take a firm stand on issues and push their own agendas result in the Iraq War and the like.

We'll have a statement from you shortly regarding Luns stance on granting driving licenses... and I can tell you now it will be in the true spirit of the Magna Carta.

No, because a majority of people can be wrong. We do not live in a direct democracy, but a democratic republic. The people are basically giving over their God-given natural rights to their representatives to protect them, and also make policy during their term. We can't have millions of presidents...we put that power into the executive branch.
If people don't like the president's policies then they can obstruct him by voting in the opposition party to power in Congress. This is essentially what happened in the 2006 elections against Bush. This is also what happened in the 1994 elections against Clinton.

You are from England, you are use to not having guns. But soon, America will be like England if we keep going the way we are going...cameras everywhere, no more guns, calling frenchfries "chips"...

... Does anybody think NY Governor Eliot Spitzer's reversal on the licenses for non-documented workers was the result of anything but a phone call from the Clinton camp? Hillary is going into the debate tonight (8pm on CNN) claiming, "I am against it!". Before, she dodged and evaded and spoke of how Gov. Spitzer was doing a good job and dealing with Bush's inability to deal with the issue.
... So, Spitzer backs off (for what kind of favor, I want to know) and legitimizes Hillary's answer this evening. It will be something like, "We cannot go against such overwhelming opinion (72% of New Yorkers are opposed to the idea)... but... (insert attack on Bush's lack of dealing with it). "
... I wanna' see Obama rip her to shreds... if he has it in him.
... (ALL the Dems want to give these licenses, it's just a matter of bucking public opinion and possibly losing an election).
... Also looking forward to hearing Luns' stance on this important issue!

I'd love to see obama call her out on it and make a good showing at the primaries.
My only concern is that he's too inexperienced for the whole thing and is riding too much on media hype and campaign funding that thinks that he's easily manipulated because he is so new to it all.
Ah well, me thinks that it does not matter who runs, this will come down to an approval rating for Bush, not a dem vs rep battle. Nobody votes pro-dem any more, they all vote anti-bush.

... I have to agree.
... I just despise that micromanaging, question-planting, lying, evasive, controlling b*tch Hillary.
... I'd love to see Obama win the ticket. I wouldn't vote for the man, but I like him nonetheless.

It has long been my opinion, whether in Canada, or across the world, that ALL POLITICIANS ARE LIARS AND THEIVES! There are only two sensible options: either kill them all, and start over........or vote for the least dangerous one, and hope for the best.
