Who will be the next England manager when Maclaren (inevitably) gets the sack?

Next England Manager

Postby diddle on Thu Nov 22, 2007 3:02 am

Its blatantly obvious that Maclaren has not succeeded in doing his job as England manager, I mean, I never really minded him as a manager, but what he's done, or should it be what he hasn't done, is unacceptable. The question is, who will be his successor?

In brackets are the given odds.

HA! Hiddink coaching England! Hiddink has a contract until like 2010 with Russia and then he will either stay with Russia or move back To Australia.

He wouldn't be sacked after the first game. He would be lynched!

I followed the same logic that I plan on using on the comming elections and voted Psycho.

How about Jurgen Klinsmann?
I think he's a good choice. But is he interested in taking over "the hot seat"? :-k

Out of all of these options, there will only be one who stands a chance of getting it...jose/alex/mark/martin will not accept, alan/stuart/guus will not be offered.

Scolari ftw!

The next coach will be decided by me. It is me.

Would he meet a good reception in a sport filled with xenophobes?

I think Alan Shearer would be a solid choice, to be honest. He's been a good footballer in his day, and I can't see him pissing off anyone by being appointed (and lets face it, appointing a german would get a more extreme reaction).

I'd be happy with either Scolari or Mourinho to be fair...

sorry to disagree here Exile but ....

For the love of God no!

Great Footballer, an ok guy but he's a friggin eegit.

Fabio Capello may be ok. (Mourinho said no already) I can not see an Englishman who could improve things and none of the best home-nation candidates would do it.

Let's face it! English football needs more than a new manager anyway.
Sir Trevor needs to set up a series of academies and a network of coaches etc which can work in conjunction but also in opposition to some aspects of the club youth academy systems.

At present we have a great league (EPL) which shepherds English players into certain roles in their respective teams. Within them they are rarely the creators or the brains of any team. this job falls on the heads of more cultured and more intelligent imported players.
As a result we have a team with no brain, no direction and no identity. the English 'culture' of football has fallen into a disparate morsel of what it should be (face it we were never very good anyway)

I do not beleive that foreign players should not be prevalent in our football but we need some intelligent people at the top of our game to create, with their millions in revenue, a new national pride in a style of football. We can no longer be a half way house between passion technique.
