As a Grammar and Spelling Nazi, I find this to be deplorable. How can a word like "woot" be crowned word of the year? Especially when there are such wonderful words like... like...

Last time I checked Mirriam-Webster's was the American English dictionary, which is used by Americans, not English or Australians.

English use OED (Oxford English Dictionary)
Australians use Macquarie Dictionary

neither of these publications has included this 'word'.

I'm on the opposite side of this argument. I say yay for a nice now common word like w00t, to be recognized by dictionairies. And best of all it gets grammer and spelling nazis upset. W00T!

Did you notice the dictionary? It was the US dictionary. Frankly, this doesn't surprise me one bit.
