Freedom of religion?

Freedom of religion = A polite way of saying, "We're not going to listen to God amymore but instead make up our own rules and claim it to be God's word."

Am I right or am I way out in left field on this one?

It would be even correct to say that it has already surpassed the left field and is now in a town 30 miles away.

Some people have different ideas as to what God's Word actually contains, so unless you're planning to forcefully convert them, it's best to leave them to their own devices.
You can even write a book about how everybody but you is wrong in every concievable way, if it makes you feel any better.

The only thing I don't get is how there are so many different religions all stemming from the same book,(Bible). Are there versions of the Bible out there that I'm not aware of.

If we're all reading the same version, how can there be so many translations?

PS: Writing a book might just make me feel better. That's good advice. It wouldn't be for the reasons you've suggested though.

Well, considering the 3 main Abrahamic faiths, the Jews only consider the Torah (the Old Testament) to be God's word, the Christians consider the Old and New Testament to be true, and the Muslims consider the Old Testament and the Koran to be true.

Is Koran the book featuring Prophet Mohammad? I've heard of this prophet many times but have never read about him. Are they one and the same?

Yup, Mohammad is the prophet said to have written the Koran.

Thanks. This has actually been quite educational.

You don't know how a person could get ahold of the Koran, do you? I wouldn't mind cross referencing what it says with what the Bible says.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was in Barnes & Noble or some other book store. Just look for the religious section. Oh, one more thing I didn't mention. Muslims believe that Jesus was, in fact, a prophet. They just doubt his divinity. They feel that Mohammad is their God's last prophet, and that they are the ones properly worshiping him.

Well, I don't know about book shops in your area, but Amazon probably has a few.

And getting a Koran is a good idea. It's always good to know what other people are reading, even if you don't agree with it. I have a bible and a koran (can't find it though), and even though I'm not religious it's very interresting.

You do realize the only reason people are more likely to believe Xianity over Scientology is because we know who wrote the books of scientology and the acid trips written in the bible are no less insane than those in the book of dianetics.

It was more a matter of ignorance (knowledge) than ignorance (prejudice).

It's this kind of nonsense that makes the Huckabee campaign frighten me so much.

GOVERNMENTS ARE NOT AROUND TO PROMOTE GOD'S WORD.

Unless you're into theocracy, in which case you can check out the Middle East and see how they like it over there.

Government exists to protect people's rights and lives. You have rights. Let's list them:

A right to life. A right to property. A right to vote. A right to bear arms.

But guess what? You do NOT have the right to determine your neighbor's sexuality. You do NOT have a right to demand fidelity to the Bible or face imprisonment. You do NOT have a right to threaten people because of their religious affiliation.

/rant.

Sorry about that. I'm just getting real frustrated about this topic...

Actually its widely thought that he didn't directly write the books since his poor childhood most likely left him illiterate, instead he 'acquired' a scribe later in life and dictated what he learned to the scribe.

Some of the comments there are retarded. Namely that the founding fathers were devout Xians.

It would be scary if the founding fathers were really from the Shaanxi Province in Northwest China. They look so white in the pictures/drawings i've seen of them.

Not exactly...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Saying that no religion will be made the official religion of the US. Simply put, really.

These are also the same spectatular group of people who flew two planes into the WTC and the Pentagon. Also, they're responcible for the current fighting in Darfur, the Balkans, Middle East, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia and other parts of the world.

Just remember, Jihad is one of the pillars of Islam for a reason.

Yes, Jenos, we all get the point. You hate Islam with a burning passion. You're become Jay-like about it.
Obviously any and all Muslims are terrorists, completely different to and obviously far worse than the Army of God, God's Army, (damn those Christians are great at naming things) Nagaland Rebels and all the other assorted Christian and pseudo-Christian terrorist groups.

They all also use Jihad as a common passtime. Christians also do this, but since they have a different name for it, it's ok.
