Favorite Whisky or Scotch

I thought I would post this thread, as we were having a good discussion about it in the Bill O'Reilly thread.

We may have to cut and paste some of the Bill O' conversation.

Before I quit drinking, I had just started enjoying Scotch. My younger brother turned me on to it. Pretty soon I was ordering it at the bar in a snifter...sometimes paying $20 a glass! (The money was good back then...)

I liked Laguvalin (sp?) but it was real expensive, but Johnny Walker Red was good, and surprisingly Wild Turkey was not that bad! (is Wild Turkey a Whiskey or a Whisky?)
But as much as I started to like Scotch, I had to admit that Jameson's Irish Whisky was my all time favorite. Technically not a Scotch, but I actually enjoyed the flavor of Jameson's over the expensive Scotches.

Then I would snort an eight ball of cocaine and smoke a couple packs of cigarettes...those were the days!

Scotch, not my thing... To strong. Makes my throat tickle. Vodka, I've only ever had straight and so it's also not my thing... I'll take my gin and tonic/Romulan Ale please :)

Because it's neither. Southern Comfort is a whiskey flavored liqueur.

Me?

Laphroaig or Lagavulin...Chivas in a pinch.

Jack Daniels is not a Bourbon. It is a "Tennessee Whiskey".

Wikipedia wrote:Tennessee whiskey is a type of American whiskey. This whiskey is generally similar to bourbon, in that it is composed of a mash of at least 51% corn (maize) and is aged in new, charred oak barrels, typically for four or more years.

But unlike bourbon, Tennessee whiskey undergoes a filtering stage called the Lincoln County Process, in which the whiskey is filtered through a thick layer of maple charcoal before it is put into casks for aging. This step gives the whiskey a distinctive flavor. The process itself is named for Lincoln County, Tennessee, which is where the Jack Daniel's distillery was originally located. In 1871, the Jack Daniel's distillery, and the surrounding area became part of the newly created Moore County.

Presently, there are only two brands of Tennessee whiskey on the market: Jack Daniel's and George Dickel.

You like 'em smokey huh?

I'm leaning towards speyside malts these days. I think my favourite is probably Highland Park (from Orkney) though.

Thankyou. So why is the ultimate whiskey not on your list?
