Do Americans have kettles?

A friend of mine spent a few months in North Carolina ten years ago and he says that no one out there has a kettle in their kitchen. I find this very strange because every kitchen in Britain has a kettle. We're a nation (were an empire) built on cups of tea. I can appreciate that Americans on the whole prefer coffee to tea, so do I, but I can't always be bothered to put the percolator on just for myself.

So, is there any truth in this observation or is it just in N.Carolina that kettles are rare?

Sure, though it's one of those electric, but I think we have an old-school model lying around somewhere as well.

My point exactly. I was incredulous when he told me that practically no one has a kettle out there. I want to find out if it's a regional quirk, or a national one.

That's not a kettle. If anything it's a hot water tank, but not a kettle.

I'm talking about proper kettles.

Innit. Not only is there a kettle in every British kitchen, but also in every hotel room that I've been in (in the UK).

In bryguy's reality, he wishes for a cup of tea and low and behold, it appears out of thin air!!

Oh, I have a percolator too, but it's no good for making tea or pot noodles.

I've got two kettles too. One electric kettle in the kitchen and a stove kettle with a whistle for when I'm camping or when there's a power cut.

Yeah, we have a nice stainless one for the kitchen (stovetop, not electric), and I have an old one (25+ years) I use for camping.

I have a kettle, and so does everyone in my family, and they get regular (nearly daily but not quite) use.

I'm all about Twinings Earl Grey.

And this is a pot noodle:

Its essentially dried noodles and you add boiled water.

What the hell is a kettle?

I actually don't like leaf water, so I tend to stick to bean water.
