Best band of the 90's

I tried to make this extensive as possible... but I left out bands like U2, Depeche Mode, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, and others, who aren't really of the 90's, since they've been around for so long.

Nine Inch Nails and a couple others are on because they formed very late in the 80's and released most of their albums in the 90's.

Yes... that's part of the point.

But it's also a serious question.

Don't be silly, nothing existed in the 90's.

I like just a few of Guns' songs, but I like them enough to vote for them.

You forgot Spice Girls, btw.

No I didn't. Everything from the Spice Girls to my pants are covered, under "Other."

Awful list. No Brit bands for a start, who did most of the best music of the 90's.
nine inch nails are AWFUL!

Soundgarden and Alice In Chains are also good.

Uh... Radiohead is British.

Nine Inch Nails is awesome, and I have no shame in saying it.

What other British bands should be on the list? I normally agree that British rock is generally superior, but I think you're being a tad nationalistic in this case...

You have Green Day and Oasis! You fail!

Some of those I haven't heard of, I'll check into them.

In any case, I looked at some similar threads around the Interwebs before posting, so I'm not completely picking stuff out of the air.

guns n roses is my favorite, but I believe appetite was released in 86 and lies in 88. use your illusion I and II was in 91 but most of that was already written by 1990 with some of the material already being played and they really dint do much after that except for the spaghetti incident which was all remakes. so there not really an 90's band.

nirvana was big in the 80's but launched in the 90's due to kurbains death. not sure when to classify them as well and Pearl Jam is in the same boat.

personally I thought the 90's turn into a disappointment. there were some good songs, but I felt it lacked a good killer album or band.

Suggs, Gene is horrible! The two songs I listened to on Youtube were among the most boring songs I've heard in my life!

Yeah, I think your (Johnny) time line is a little off. If any of these bands shouldn't be considered 90s, shouldn't be Guns N Roses?

I wiki'd almost all of these bands. Nirvana only became successful at about 1990, and Pearl Jam was formed in 1990. Guns N' Roses was formed in '85, but Wikipedia's Rise to Fame section for them is 1987-1989, and they were active right through the 90's. I think that qualifies them as a 90's band.

This has an effect on my answer:

Assuming we lived during the 90s, would you rather me vote based on what I liked in the 90s or what I would listen to now?

Green Day of the 90's is much different than the shit they put out a few years ago. The difference was the fact that they were actually good in the 90's.

I was going to vote Radiohead but missed and hit Blind Melon...Oh well Blind Melon was still a great band.

Most of my favorite bands kind of took the 90s off. Though during the 90s (mind you, I was just a little kid), I listened to *gasp!* pop music. Also Baha Men. But I guess I'll go with GnR.
