well, in the OP's defense, i've lived in a number of houses in Philadelphia that didn't have dishwashers standard.

if living alone, it's not the worst thing in the world, but if you have roommates, the dirty dishes in the sink can rapidly become a problem, and a source of tension.

those experiences have made me really grateful to have a dishwasher, and a basic requirement of any new apartment or house i look at. laundry, on the other hand, is not as important. it's nice to have a washer and dryer on location, but having had to trek to laundromats for a couple years, it doesn't bother me nearly so much as not having a dishwasher

I could get my grandparents on here.. But they don't have the internet!

Dishwasher is so helpful.
1) It saves more water than washing your dishes (which is very important for Australia in this point in time and for the past few years)
2) For all the lazy people, like me, you can just go bam! and it's done.... in an hour.

No.. Washing dishes uses more water than using a dish washer.

What the hell do they teach you in Sydney?

The Dishwasher - best invention ever and second only to the washing machine.
Emptying it's a bit of a drag though.
