Not necessarily. Pimp has several different meanings. One of which, I just found out, is a small bundle of sticks.

No. And you know what? People need to have a little more respect for the profession. I've heard it's damn hard.

Also, pimps are usually nasty pieces of work. Beating your women is usually part of the deal and getting them hooked on drugs is a neccesity.

Pimping is one of the most dishonourable professions in this world.

Also, it's hard out here for a pimp.

I never thought it was, but apparently it is considered an inappropriate word/name for some reason. If you ever play Poker Stars, the delete the word Pimp from their chat rooms...unreal!

I think that it is. And am insulted when people call me that. I can't speak for citizens of nations where prostitution is legal, but in America pimps are bastards.

I wouldn't call it inappropriate, even though I think it's lame that you use it in your user name. You probably have it because it's been romanticized in urban culture, not because you want to look like someone who makes women sell themselves on the corner to get their fix. #-o

no, it is not an inappropriate word. pimp is a word just like any other word. If you actually are a pimp, then I would be a bit worried, but I somehow doubt that. I don't care what you put in your name, all I care about is what color it is on the map :D

Well, it has also changed to mean anything rather too ostentatious - as in the TV show Pimp My Ride, which I believe is about cars, and not a sort of Prostitute My Girlfriend and see how much she can earn reality show

The only words that are inappropriate are malapropisms. And no word is necessarily a malapropism.

Well, I was having fun with this conversation. Now you've confused me with your smartiness. Thanks, MeDeFe.

Oh, and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I've also heard pimpin' ain't s*** but hoes and tricks.

It's only inappropriate if you make it so.

Well, you won't find Miss Manners using it.

First, even if it did simply refer to "a person who hooks up people with prostitutes", you can't seriuosly think that it is above reproach. Many people do find prostitution offensive.

Second, "pimp" refers to a specifically negative portion of prostitution ... those who entice and often entrap fairly young girls and naive women into virtual slavery ... down to outright actual slavery ... and things a lot worse than slavery.

I has been taken on by certain rapsters and others as a kind of "in your face" slap. That does not mean it is an "OK" term. It means that some people like to be offensive to others. (and no, all rap is definitely not offensive ... just some).

I would not personally tell you not to use the term ... BUT, if you use it, you accept the consequences. And, you DO need to understand that manners exist for a reason ... it is a way that people with all kinds of ideas, beliefs and morals can coexist and discuss things without offending.

So, use it or don't ... but don't try to pretend it "doesn't matter" I believe you DO know better ... and if you didn't you do now!

Let's take the proposal to Fox. You could call it Everybody Fox my Chick.
