Seriously though, they probably have a good reason for funding the war on terror, but not our injured vets. I mean, think about how many terrorists our Department of Homeland Security has stopped already.

That's still 0 right?

There is nothing unpatriotic about this.

Nothing at all.

I liked this quote:
"They're using every trick to get us away from dealing with high gas prices," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

yeah...

Maybe they could introduce Al Gore as the new Robin? That would be awesome!

Man, vets always get the short end of the stick. Physicians look down on them as not being "real" doctors, and they have to deal with people and their weird obsessive nature towards their pets.

Don't Republicans have pets too? Why do they care so little about those courageous men and women who spay and neuter all of the strays running around?

What a shame.

Um... Mr. Pimpdave..... I think you misunderstood.

By "vets' we mean former members of the military..... so...um....sorry for any confusion. Also, animal vets are heroes too. I can't trim my ferrets nails, I get too nervous and shakey.

(Attached bills) included the Emmitt Till Unsolved Crime Act, aimed at investigating unsolved civil rights era crimes; the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act; a runaway and homeless youth bill; a bill to combat child exploitation by pornographers; a measure to create a database for Lou Gehrig's disease victims and aid for new mothers suffering from depression.

Coburn and other Republicans said they support most of the bills included in Reid's single bill. But overall, the legislation would have created programs costing $10 billion without proposing ways to pay for them, he said. Coburn complained that Reid was trying to force legislation to a vote without debate and the right to offer amendments.

... And they all go on vacation, recess has begun and the Dems attempt to dodge the blame of utterly ignoring debate on oil drilling by throwing this thing out there.

... Almost as good as that recent, kickass apology to Native Americans. Wow, these guys are tackling issues, eh? I'll sleep well tonight.

If the drinking age is lowered to 18 then I fully support that. At least let people get a little life-experience before letting them vote.

if you're old enough to be prosecuted as an adult, you should be old enough to have a say in adult discussion. that covers voting/drinking/smoking/other age discriminations.

drinking ages doesn't need to be reduced, just do what the rest of us under 21 year olds do, have 21+ older friends...

and make sure their people you don't like too much and who don't have very many friends, because they'll find any excuse to hang out with you, including buying you booze... and sometimes just paying for it just so they can hang out with you!!

in all fairness, i do kind of think it was meant at least partly to serve as a distraction from talking about the energy crises. but that's beside the point.

the article does not state specifically why the republicans turned down the bill. i know you like to demonize them as being rich fat meanie poopooheads who spend all their time scheming on how best to destroy the environment AND screw our veterans at the same time, but i'd argue that that's probably not the case. to be sure, they're not saints; they're politicians after all. i would bet that the reason for blocking the bill was either a) that it didn't do ENOUGH to provide for veterans this has happenned before)(, or b) it was packaged in with other useless, irrelevant pork bills that had nothing to do with veteran aid (the article notes that dems lumped together 33 bills, how many of them are just pork?).

before you assume that the republicans are EVIL, take a moment and think, "why would they not want this bill passed" there are many, better reasons than "they hate veterans"

i, for one, can't say for sure why they did it. i think it's for one of the reasons i mentioned, but i've been wrong before.in fact, if anyone knows, I'd like to find out. enlighten me :)

yes i believe lack of funds is also generally an acceptable reason to not do something. we're already way to far in debt as it is
