Mr. Mustard,

You are very interesting and smart and stuff. Please tell us your views on things, as well as on stuff. Everyone, please suggest a category for Mr. Mustard to share his views. After he shares his views, someone can suggest a new category. I will start.

Indiana: How haven't the residents of the state managed to kill themselves all off in Darwin Awards fashion yet?

(explanation to any lurkers who do not understand a key detail missing from the topic: people from Indiana are dumb)

Excuse me Mr. Neoteny, but you are not following the format for this thread. Please do not confuse the readers, or the fellows in the cubicle adjacent.

Your post should read:

Phil Collins: Why is he so completely awesome and makes my weenie get stiff?

(Cause that's what you'd say, about your own weenie. I wouldn't say that.)

Indiana: My guess is that they keep being supported by the rest of the Union, they'd be dead if it wasn't for all of the money pouring out of New York.

Phil Colins: He's awesome because of the epiphany he experienced on Salisbury Hill. It that Eagle hadn't flown out of the night, then he'd still be foraging nuts and berries from hedgerows on his endless hike down the M25.

Lib Dems: No election winning for the conceivable future. They're a nice party and all, but their main area of pickup votes are disaffected tories. While that Cameron demagogue is plying his snake-oil policies, and while Gordon Brown is being uninspiring, then they're just dead in the water.

Old Dudes in photos: Sepia wins. Just like Bowler Hats.

Pimp thread starting: Because these threads are awesome, and it is important that a structured approach is taken to keep people like Nobunaga sharing their views.

Do you really like clans? Or do you think they signed Flame Wars death warrant?
What is your favourite colour?

How about multi's and alternative forums?
Is Prowler your favourite Player?

Thai Food: It's ok I guess. But it doesn't have the power to change society. Yet.

Clans: I'm not a massive fan of them, but I am a member of a whole load of them. Their main use is to provide places for plotting elaborate types of troll raid and to co-ordinate plans of attack on other forum users. Beyond that, I don't have much use for them.

Prowler: Favourite player? No. I think he's an idiot.

Colour: Blue/Black

Multis: Multis are frequently hilarious, and I don't see the problem with forum 'gimmick accounts'. Sure, cheating at the game is probably fairly annoying... but joke accounts on here? That's just funny.

FW's fall:
Hmmm, a hard one. Sure, clans were partly to blame; even my beloved PC's. The fact is that, despite forming with good intentions, and producing a whole load of quality material in our lifespan; we may just have been a tiny bit too good at killing off genuine competition, stamping out annoyin n00bs, and preventing infighting amongst some of the (then) biggest posters, for our own good.
On the other hand, who knows how many (semi-)decent posters would have left FW of their own accord anyway (after all, there's a real world out there and people leave all the time)? And who knows which particular virulent strains of troll would have set up camp regardless of who else was posting. FW is a delicate ecosystem and there are a whole load of more complex factors at work... blaming 'clans' in general is just too simplistic.

What I would blame as contributing to FW's downfall is weak and stupid moderating. There's no point in having a system moderated by people who don't understand it. FW's decay has been accelerated by a mod-policy of allowing dumb non-contributing posts to go unchecked, and by giving several spam-whores free-reign to pollute and hijack every thread that springs up there. It just makes FW unreadable, and quite frankly, boring as f*ck.
And how many decent new posters are going to come to the place if it's just a cess-pit of spam and garbage? None.

Furthermore, the retroactive banning of several decent members for arbitrarily defined offences, and the complete moratorium on using 'personal' information (and don't get me wrong, there is a line there which ought to be defended); didn't do anything to help FW stay healthy, amusing and interesting either

Basically, FW needs a concerted effort from both posters and mods if it's to recover. Temp-Ban the spammers/trolls from the forum for a while, then give the 'community' a chance to recover and to remember what well-written, imaginative, and amusing flaming looks like. Until that happens, the place is dead.
