I'm on the fence here. If it were an adult that died, I wouldn't care. But since it was a child, is it a crime?

Also, the crazy part, appearantly, their daughter died because they didn't have enough faith....

... Kneejerk reaction: Jail time for both parents.

... After careful consideration.... No, no changes, it's murder.

... Jail.

...

I'm at a loss on this one. The story was on my local news very breifly this morning, but I couldn't find any big news source-articles.
Anyway... I don't know how to feel on this one. :( Sad I guess.

not the first time, wont be the last.

I believe denying medical care is protected under freedom or religion or was viewed that way, though id have to check to see that nothing new had overturned this.

That was my question, since she was a child who couldn't make the decision on her own.

This reminds me of the joke where a guy was stranded on top of his house during a flood. He denied help from everyone, saying that God would save him. When he drowned and went to heaven, he asked God why he didn't save him. God said, "What are you talking about? I sent you two boats and a helicopter." :)

Exactly. Thats how a alot of people misinterepret him. It's more likely he's going to send you a boat then get some dolphines to come and lift me up onto a beach.

This actually happens a lot in Oklahoma... There are many sects of Christianity that believe in this... I have known several people who have had family members die due to their beliefs...

It is a thin line blurring religion with neglect, but it has always held up in this state.

In Britain doctors can overule parents in cases involving children, in circumstances such as you have presented a case of manslaughter could be brought.

Further proof that there is no God...
People who do that are absolutely idiotic.

This happens pretty regularly. That's probably why major news sources don't bother. Unless it had a "twist" somewhere.

Jail the parents. Take the other kids for a checkup (it's likely they haven't seen a doctor in years).
Let the parents pray for an angel to open the prison doors for them - there's precedent.

Oh please, proving that there isn't a God is even more useless then proving that there is one. As Frigidus once wrote (I'm paraphrasing here): Even if God does exist, I still don't see why I should bow to him.
Either you're a sheep or you're a man. God's existence has nothing to do with it.

What this case does prove is that even if God exists that doesn't mean that he likes religious zealots any more then other sentient creatures do.

I didn't click the link, but a lot of times parents have rights to make these decisions when it's a particularly low likelihood of survival, such as advance stage cancer or something that requires massively invasive treatment such as bone marrow transplant and such. (The typical case today doesn't usually center on parents who opt for "holy" intervention, but instead on using alternative medicines... like atheists hippies giving their kid an herbal Chinese remedy instead of sending them for chemo, and the kid dies.)

If we're talking about appendicitis, the parents should be given poison so they can waste away like their child in complete agony. Jail is too good for these imbeciles (both the God nuts and the hippies) - why should the American taxpayer support them to enjoy the ideal monastic/transcendental lifestyle in isolation from the world. It's got to be death or the labor camp IMHO.

Parents should be ordered henceforth to survive on nothing but pixie stix and Mountain Dew. The lord shall regulate their pancreas if they be worthy.

I'm sorry but this is unbelievable. I spent many years working on an accute endocrinology ward, where about 30% of our cases were DKA's (diabetic ketoacidosis). It is so treatable, within a few hours people can be back up and on their feet again. The reason people get DKA is from abuse of their diabetes, so this was likely originally caused by her parents not adhering to her diet. Its heartbreaking to know a young girl has died so unneccessarily. Its neglect pure and simple, bible bashing twatheads
