Getting beat up

Okay so I got beat up after work by a guy who I said I could kick the shit out of. He is sure to tell everyone about it, and I feel humiliated that I said I could kick his ass and then he did it to me. How do you go about restoring your dignity after being beaten up and what do you say to the people at work the next day?

You don't mention it. You just go in like nothing happened.
If anyone says anything to you, or picks on you, you ignore them. I hope you're capable of that whump.
It's an uncomfortable bed you've made for yourself, but you're going to have to lie in it now. If they tease you, despite you ignoring them, and it distracts you from your job, you might gently ask them to stop.
If they persist for a week or more, you might approach your boss and ask him/her to ask your coworkers to just drop it. If they don't, you should get another job.
And regardless of whatever you do, start looking for another job. You need to leave that place as soon as possible. Just hold your head high, never EVER talk about it with anyone you work with, and learn your lesson.
That lesson being, DON'T FUCKING FIGHT YOUR COWORKERS. Just be polite to them and go home to live your own life at the end of the day.

*shakes head* And so you want to compound the potential humiliation by posting this here?
I am going to ignore that it was Whump who is positing the query, and just answer with my opinion as if it wasn't Whump: Fight him again, and soon. Keep fighting him on a daily basis until you win or he gets so creeped out that he begins to avoid you.

First of all, don't go pick fights over petty reasons. Second of all, since you instigated it, taking you down a notch or two may actually be good for you. 3rd, You lost a fight that you yourself instigated, deal with it like a man and don't whine and bitch about it.

The only way you could possibly restore any amount of your dignity is by beating someone else up or by just waiting it out. I recommend the latter as you shouldn't be picking all these fights to begin with, doesn't really help your public image.

There are upsides to this. You'll find out sometime to what I'm referring to.

You do it by forgetting that your dignity is important. You don't mention it, and if someone else mentions it you crack jokes at your own expense or make comments about how "Yeah, that was pretty dumb of me. Teach me to pick fights, huh?" etc. You make fun of yourself - because if people think it was no big deal to you, it becomes no big deal to them.

Just work out a bit and when you get close to him outside of work hit a sucker punch out of the blue, but if he wants to appologise or forget about it just let him and get on with life.

I'd say you owe him a one-way ticket on a Greyhound to the destination of his choice.

Rape his wife/girlfriend/mother/sister, and/or call him naughty names. That'll teach him.

i'd be very surprised if anybody where you work has one iota of respect for you anyway. so just carry on as normal and don't worry about the sniggering. it certainly won't be the black eye they are all laughing at.
or learn kung fu.

Good grief Whumpster!
Well if this were true, which i do not concede it to be ; )
Don't go around talking about violence and how hard you will beat someone... that way only lies defeat. If you wish to foster the image of a tough guy, don't talk about fighting, don't even do it... resist the urge. The movies are littered with the overt tough guy who gets his arse kicked by aging ninja grandmothers with a dim-sum cart.
You want to be the reluctant hero! the guy who does not want to fight.. the guy with latent power (bloody hell watch a couple of Bruce Lee flicks)
But life is not, contrary to popular opinion, the movies (though even in the most exaggerated of parodies a glimmer of truth may lie... May Li is the girl Bruce always gets at the end, after he breaks the villains back.. reluctantly) your best bet, if you have no physical presence, and no potential to actually physically best anyone, is to be less irritating.
In real life I am a fairly large man, so perhaps my paths are more simple but i am also decent company most of the time; i waver between charm and incisive ridicule which is lucid in its playful intent. Balance is what we should seek.
You need a bit more Charm Wrestler; I know many little chaps with presence and the ability to float above conflict due to the control over their inner demons.

TRy not threatening people.
This is easy for me - I'm crap at fighting and always have been.
I've lost every fight in my life but one.
Doesn't make me belittle myself though, or worry if people think I'm not tough. I'm not.

If it gets out of hand I suggest fighting again. If he's bigger then you don't even try anything like wait or chest. Hit in the face or solerplex as hard as you can, that should stun him for a while. I suggest solarplex since he'll foldup and bend down(natural reaction) then you are free to knee/kick if face. When kneeing grab his shoulders and do it repeatedly. You want to make sure he's done, so he doesn't try anything funny. Notice im being extra specific so you don't get your ass kicked again. But this is only when it gets too far. Either this or go to his house to play "baseball".
