"We welcome change and openness. For we believe that Freedom and Security go together. That the advance of human liberty can only strengthen the cause of world peace."

Who said this, and how do you feel about these words?

Ronald Regan was a great speaker. Part of what gave him so much influence with the Russian government was that they thought he was a madman. His unwavering willingness to contend against the Soviet Union in an arms race caused the Soviets to fear him immensely. I simply wonder what your point is by making this thread and posting the link in your sig to his speech.

Well, Republicans, are there any of you that want to tell me why the stuff I posted in the "take a bullet for Obama" thread do not apply equally to Reagan?

The man, no less than CEO who turns a blind eye to fraud and illegality by his leutenants, turned a blind eye to Iran-Contra. The man became and icon. The man was a master of formulas and imagery. Yet in his day, he did a lot to set the stage for the Bush I recession that followed, making it necessary for Bush I to raise taxes to get the economy out of it's defecit tail spin. And he severly crippled domestic programs for affordable education in favor of "breaking" the USSR in a race to empty our respective pocket books. (And 12 years after the supposed liberalization of Russia, what are they doing now??)

Contrast:

Reagan's cult of personality:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MzShg7yXik

Obama's cult of personality:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KW8DRSvEoQ

Which one scares you more?

My biggest point on the quote deals with Freedom and Security and how do they go hand in hand?

I don't think the Patriot Act has given us Freedom with Security, do you?

Ronald Regan and GW are viewed with a similar amount of respect by the majority people with a brain outside of USA. Both are fucking idiots. Thatcher was a fucking idiot as well.

Nah, it's an actor because there is an A. But since bad doesn't have an A, you don't need to do it.

But it's an adjective...so the A in actor still counts, doesn't it?

Nope. It just depends on whatever the next word is, regardless of whether it's an adjective.

What would an adjective have anything to do with it. The reason for the a vs an is merely phonetics and how words are spoken, as it's hard to pronounce words otherwise. The sounds tend to slur together.

A hour

vs

An hour

sound em out, and make sure you're not saying a hard "A" as proper grammar calls for a soft "ah" (sort of... you know what I mean by soft) sound. Of course used the silent h to show that it's about enunciation.
