Is it wrong that I've been voluntarily listening to techno for hours now?

Yeah, it all has to do with the setting.

If you were at a rave, and Oakenfold was spinning (or Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, or even some Chemical Brothers), and you had glow sticks and "felt the love", that'd be completely different. In that case, I'd be nodding my head and be all like "yeah, dude, techno fucking rules." Because in that situation, in that moment, the music is a part of you.

So, unless the techno you're listening to is something that was playing during a rave you attended, then you're probably not listening to it to remember that moment when it was "in you", and instead might be getting tortured with piss poor composition, simple arpeggios and a boringly simple 4/4 beat.

See, even though all those things are present in most hip hop, the music is used as a backdrop for the poetry and talent on display by the MC (or some creative call and response with the audience -- the best hip hop shows do this -- De La Soul is quite adept at eliciting complex audience interaction). But with most techno, there's no such showcase. With techno, the music is the backdrop for the talented dancers and goofy hugging you see going on at a rave. There's really no purpose to it outside of that setting.

Also, that setting gets old pretty quickly. But in a way, it's a rite of passage. Just don't deceive yourself into living only for that moment, cause everyone else outgrows it, and if you don't, you'll just be that sad guy who let it ruin his life.

Well technically you don't just listen to techno for six hours, for the full effect you have to strip buttock-naked and dangle 20kg of weight from your bellend while your listening, that's what really gets them.
