serious question, i took the time to look up racist in the dictionary, feel free to do the same.
just because someone gets excited and uses colorful language to taunt, or get under another persons skin, or even gets pissed off and lets someone have it in a moment of rage, does the language make that person a racist?

I'm pretty sure the Q&A forum is for CC related questions. You're probably looking for the Chatter Box.

That said, your question is impossible to answer properly. It really depends on what "colourful" language the person is using. There are plenty of things that can be said in a fit of rage that are not racist in the least. I think the fact that you had to ask, means that, yes, what whomever you're referring to said, is racist, and probably means that they are, at least somewhat, a racist person.

mods, i dont feel this belongs in chatter box, as it clearly does pertain to C.C.
if someone can be banned for being a racist on C.C. then this is a relavent question.

Dictionairy wrote:3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Using the term "beaner" when referencing Mexicans shows hatred or intolerance, as does using the term "nigger" when referencing people of African decent. That's racism, as is using any other racial slur. Calling somebody an asshole, or a whore is not racism. Any other insult that does not reference the colour of your skin or you racial decent is not racism. It's pretty clear stuff...

Thank you for saying what I said in a more understandable format.

well i was hoping for more responses

but i disagree with this limited consensus that the words used make a person racist, or that words are inherently racist in themselves.

i'm irish, and i take no offense to mick, or turkey, etc.

i grew up on the so. side of chicago my dad a union truck driver average so. side neighborhood, nothin special.
irish, italian, polish mainly. so i grew up with degos and polocks and no one in my neighborhood got offended by these words, it was who we were. i'm 40 by the way.

there was no hatred expressed or implied when using one of these words, if anything it was along the lines of greaseball dego, or you dumb polock, nothing intended more than a jab. we even bought joke books as kids to f*ck with each other.

maybe all the people who get offended so easily are younger and thinner skinned, maybe they grew up in more white collar neighborhoods, i dont know, but i just dont believe words make you racist.

and i'm not trying to cause trouble with this, i just dont get it.

I'm not sure where the line gets drawn when it comes to what players write. That being said I couldn't help but think that the new Supermax: Prison Riot map was at the very least stereotypical based on the ter. names, possibly racist depending on your level of sensitivity.

Those lucky bastards. None of the sheep have returned my calls.

I clearly remember giving Dolly the sheep my card, before Gene Wilder led her out of the doctor's office.

I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I mean, aside from assuming that sheep know how to use telephones, but please, don't point out the obvious. This is a very serious question.

Racism is in the eye of the beholder, at least these days it is. A flight attendant was sued and my favorite local brewery was forced to remove a billboard because a nursery rhyme was deemed to be racist. You could look at someone wrong and they could take that as racist. Some people even call things racist for fear of looking racist themselves.

when i was in high school my teacher deifined raciesm to us and he said this "the only people that can be racist are the majority they get this way by opressing the minority." wich to me is a bunch of bull s#$T if you ask me. to be a racist you have to do more than say somthing about a group of people you have to mean it and belive it. to me i think everone in the world is racist i really do to a degree some can control it better. but look at survaval of the fittest most people feel most comfortable in a group of stranges are like themselves they feel safer and can realax easer. so this acording to my defanishion is rasist but we all are that is normal. you want people like you to surive cause thouse are the people you know. i am not some one who hates people. and if it was just the words someone said that made you racist than i guess all comideans are racist. right. (SORRY crammry for makeing a big deal out of your out break after all all comedaians are if you go bye what they say) so to me its what you mean and think not what you say that makes you a racist and also people stop getting so dam offended so easy ok really!!!!!

No! It does not.

In some ways, your teacher was accurate. On a macro level, the "whites" might be the majority in the US, but this is not the case in many neighborhoods in cities across the nation. In NYC's Bed-Stuy, Harlem, or Chinatown, for example, being white can very easily (and does) lead to being subjected to racism by the population that comprises the majority. This, however, doesn't mean that the majority of people in those neighborhoods are racists, just that someone who would be considered the majority on the macro level would certainly be in the minority on the micro level, and be subjected to racism.

It takes many forms, from being charged higher prices for goods and services, to being ignored in preference for someone of the majority, etc.

The primary problem with defining racism as something someone truly believes is that we still haven't developed the technology to know the human heart (the US Patent Office and the DOJ are standing by, inventors!). Thus, attitudes, actions and words are the best indicators for what someone truly believes.

To claim that a comedian is a racist, unless they come right out and say that they are, isn't really fair, since the audience buys their ticket for the show with the understanding that the comedian is NOT to be taken seriously. However, that's a market driven force. If the comedian is overtly racist in his/her act, the revenue generated from the shows will dry up, and those kinds of jokes won't make money anymore (except, I'm sure, in niche racist markets).

On an internet forum, however, it's much different. There is no tacit understanding of not taking things seriously and there is no real suitable mechanism for restraining attempts at humor from going too far or ceasing to be humor in the first place. Saying "I'm just kidding" is a cop out, and not legitimate. Because of these limitations to the medium, and the fact that the content is user created (as opposed to a performer/audience relationship), one must generally fault on the side of avoiding anything that could be construed as racist. Most importantly, it's the lowest blow someone could make, appealing to the lowest common denominator, going after that which one cannot control.

WRONG!!!!!!! [-X

When a person speaks out in anger usually it's their true inner thoughts coming out in true scum-bag fashion. End of story! ;)

So the moral of the story is unless it's meant purely as a joke then chances are it's a racist comment. Obviously you've been in this situation considering your defensive stance on the subject. 8-)

i whole heartedly agree with you.
i tell my daughters not to call themselves irish american, rather since they were born here that they are american, their great grandparents were irish american.

if you want to call yourself blank american, then go back to blank.
thats why in america our flag, by law, flys the highest over all others

WRONG!!!!! [-X

When a person speaks out in anger, they are trying to hurt the other person! and sometimes throwing racial slurs accomplishes this aim! Doing so does not make that person a racist, nor does it reflect their true inner thoughts about race. It is simply a means to an end.
