Ok, I am assuming that you all are aware of the US fleet that just left the US for the Persian Gulf. They plan on blockading IRAN from getting specific items related to Nuclear Energy. But an Blockade (US is calling it an embargo), as I am told, can be considered a decleration of war.
Since Russia has attacked Georgia, she has had a hugely increased military preesence down there.....
And the US and NATO have used it as an excuse to increase their presence as well. We have two military forces facing each other their now. Russia is threatening military actions against NATO. Now, we have this:

Apearantly, Israel may have close to a billion dollars(US) already invested in Georgia.... and the US wants bases there, to face Russia......
The Iranians want Russia to continue with her presence.... to ward off the US....

Nobody wants a US vs Russia war, especially not the governments of the US and Russia. The only reason it could possibly go that way is for everything to go wrong diplomatically with a few really bad things happening at the wrong time from completely unrelated places.

Possible, yes. Likely, absolutely not. There'll be a little diplomatic face-off before there are some concessions made by both sides, because no one wants any possibility of nuclear war.

Some might ask "who really wants war 'cept for madmen?" but, I doubt a nuclear conflict, especially when Russia is in the sad state it is in with negative population growth (as per my senior project three years ago) and said population being about 148 million, verses the US being about three million (morbidly, we are better off after the fallout, our mortality percentage is lower as their are simply more of us than them), plus our ABM systems (versions of which existed since the late '60s and and early '70s, namely the Nike series interceptors). If this plays out at all with out M.A.D., we should see something like Red Storm Rising; a large conventional war, similar to WWII in scope but with the latest in digital age weapons.

The more I'm reading about this, the less I like it. So the US was going to place bases in Georgia. They are puting a missle systems in Poland. Does this not sound like Russia was being surrounded? Plus, I'm reading witness reports all over the place that Georgia attacked South Odessa first. Could it be that the US or Israel used Georgia to get Russia to strike.... only to say that Russia is the aggressor? To use the public perception to kick off a war? Perhaps Russia's Huge response actually has staved off a war?

More likely, either delayed the inevitable or accelerated the build-up. Remember, Russia has almost always been surrounded by hostile nations: the Mongol Empire, China (at different times), Japan (up until 1945, but we have a military presence there), Alaska, Western Europe (Napoleon, Prussia, pre-Weimar Germany, Sweden until the Thirty-Years War, etc.), various other countries.

It reallity, it is over-stating the obvious to say Russia feels surrounded. Heck, many still believe Germany might declare war again. And they know China is hungry after their Siberian oil fields......

The fact that the media painted as the Russians as the complete and utter evil and didn't let the facts get in the way of a good story is obvious. Try to read some outside sources. TRanslate a russian page and than read some american page. There was a massive outburst but Georgia attacked South Ossetia, where 90% of people have Russian passports. Russia retalitated. The US tried to look all innocent but it has been antagonizing and slowly closing in on Russia for ages now.

If you want to know the truth, read Al_Jazeera. The rest of the outlets are sooo bad. In UK, FT and BBC are plain bad, while the others seem to take their editorials from Kavkaz-Centre But russians are bad too

You are right, "naval blokade" is an act of war but "embargo" is not. This why USofA calls it "embargo". It is all just pre-election muscle play. It will all be over in November
