Lost dog

Hey, my dog recently ran away, and as much as I would rather be out looking for her now, my dad made me come back in and wait until morning tomorrow.
So, anyone have some tips for finding her that I can use tomorrow morning?
And on the off chance that someone lives in the downtown or northern part of Salem, Oregon, if you happen to see a little Shelty running around, let me know.

Look in neighbor's yards. Bring treats. When you catch him get a tracking chip inserted so it doesn't happen again.

Well, the only problem with the looking in neighbor's yard idea is that I live about 5 miles away from where she was lost.

Definitely post signs in the area... you would be surprised, sometimes people find a dog and assume its been abused and just "adopt" (i.e., steal) it. Go door to door (with an adult or a friend). If its five miles away, it's going to be very likely someone else is going to see your dog before you do, and your best bet is to let them know how to reach you ...
Some strays make it to the municiapl pound, but more often now there are also many quasi-shelter re-homers (out of a legitimate concern with kill shelters) operating informally that you might not find in the local phone book... so you want the person who finds your dog to call you first.

Listen to gd. It's good advice. I hope you find your dog. It's terrible when they get lost.

Take a blanket or some type of bedding that the dog uses and put it in your back yard - preferably hung off the ground. It will have a scent that will attract your dog.
This page has some good advice:
http://www.savethedals.org/lost-dog.htmIf you make signs/posters/flyers, include a colour picture of your dog. A colour picture will catch a person's eye and will help people remember the flyer or poster. When they first see the poster, they might not have seen your dog. But if they see your dog a day or 2 or more later, they will remember the poster much more easily.
My advice is that a colour picture is very important. Even if it takes a little more time or costs a little more, it will be much more effective. And laminate any posters that you will hang outside so they last a while.
This might seem like a no-brainer, but when you are out looking and calling for your dog, bring something that makes a happy noise for the dog, especially if someone is helping you that doesn't normally call your dog. So a squeaky toy, a bowl of food that you shake to call your dog to dinner, whatever else might be familiar.
Oh, I've also heard that it is a good idea to include something like "Requires medication as soon as possible" on any flyer or poster. Then if some asshole finds your dog who might decide to keep her, they will be less likely to because they don't want the medical bills. They will call for the reward that you'll put on the poster too. If you don't have a lot of money, just say "Reward"...no specified amount.
And good luck.

Check the dustbins at your local budget Oriental Cuisine establishment, and pray that one of his more chewy limbs had some distinguishing features.

In my own experience with Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cuisine, i've found Shelties to be rather stringy (also you'll inevitably find long Shelty hairs in the dish). Pugs however, are rather tasty, and whenever i see a stray one i throw it in my trunk and take it to one of my oriental friends. Yum.

I just have to wonder were you going to the park or something when the dog ran away?

Because my senile father decided to take her to his restaurant when he went to lock up, the dog got out of the car, and when he tried to tell her to get in the car she bolted. And to make it worse, my dad's a gimp so he couldn't run after her and by the time he pulled around the van, she was long gone.
