I thought the out cry for that comment was over blown also. But why say that Republicans have to resort to false accusations and misquotes when both sides seem to be guilty of them?

Because Palin made the hockey mom comment to tumultuous applause at the RNC. Obama threw out the word "lipstick" a little too early.

Word.

You can't go and blame the masses for being just as bad as the other masses because they're all basically the same. Shit-slinging is something which has been enjoyed for pretty much all of humanity and it's not going to stop. People like to gossip and say outright lies about others because they fucking like it. Just look at all of the numerous gossip-magazines in pretty much every kiosk you visit. Or the outrage in your friend-circle that Dave went of with Lizzy in the bar yesterday when he said "izzit?".

It's really the politicians themselves who matter.

I didn't like her after she described herself as "pistol-packing"

While I wonder whether Obama should've waited a little longer to not be drawn into the "PEOPLE WHO SAY THINGS ABOUT PALIN ARE ALL FUCKING SEXIST!" aftermath, you have to appreciate the delicious irony of McCain suddenly saying it's inappropiate when he made the same comment about Hilary Clinton.

No doubt Obama said it on purpose.

Actually BOTH Obama and McCain have made the "lipstick on a pic" reference long before Sarah Palin.

McCain said it in reference to Hillary Clinton.

Obama has used it more in general terms. ... sort of like the older saying you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

But saying it the aftermath of a highly applauded line in a milestone speech? Not very wise, IMO.

You don't seriously believe that. Look at his track record of what happens to his opponents. It wasn't 24 hours after Palin was names that people were "rumoring" that she faked her pregnancy.

Talk about quotes out of context. Despite what Maureen Dowd and others are writing about her, Palin is hardly about dinosaurs fornicating with the devil and burning books. This country have never elected an agnostic, and Obama is a professed Christian. Ask him whether he believes the story of Genesis. Not that I care what he personally believes, but it's very unlikely you'll get a straight answer about what he "believes" because he is a politician who plays both sides of the fence. Palin is comfortable enough in her own skin to say frankly what her personal beliefs are, but those are just that, personal beliefs, and I don't see anything on her record where she tried to impose fundamentalist reforms of the social conservatives. And that's because I'm not just looking at the many out-of-context quotations of things she has said that are now known by nearly everyone here... and the "conclusions" spun by the pundits who have "analyzed" them. It's mostly opinion, a lot of it is stuff that ordinary people agree with, AND some of it is just funny. Yes people, she was joking that hockey mom's are pit bulls with lipstick. It was not code that she is a neo-nazi!

Palin is a populist conservative pragmatist. That is like anti-matter for the mass of voters over the age ot 23 to OBama's brand of populist liberal la-la idealism. Obama's team knows he is in trouble, but he is sitting on the high ground waiting for something to blow up that will discredit her. It's always conveniently worked for him before.
