socialism indicted

Hey right wing assholes, look around you and try and keep pretending that small government works. This is all your fault. The 'market' is a human invention, like nuclear bombs. I realise that's a poor analogy for the more 2nd amendment-happy crowd, so i'll try another analogy... it's a function of human behaviour, like incest or line dancing. This time please leave government, regulation and in fact everything else to the people with a clue. k tks.

Whats your plan? Take all our money and divide it as you see fit?

As opposed to your money not being worth anything? It seems to be quite the dilemma...

Reagonomics is Voodoo economics. Wealth does not trickle down - in fact, the circulation of money, goods, and services, is tipped in favor of the rich. The gap between the rich and the poor only grows wider with time. Without a lot of redistribution of that wealth, the middle class disappears, and the poor eventually become slaves to the rich.

well how about for starters we spend $700 bn of your money on bailing out a load of over-greedy financial institutions who are screwed, and who have screwed everyone, because no one gave a shit what they were up to? That always works.

It's happened many times before in the past... And really, do any of you want people like manimal to be a "slave master"?

Word. You guys need some sort of people's movement that will end the corruption in washington and let everyone get what they deserve. The redistribution of wealth according to what people need and not what they've earned is vital in keeping the nation afloat. The working-class should rise up against all those oppressing politicians and wealthy stock-owners, the money they have could be far better used to help kids in the ghettos and establish means to represent minorities in companies and politics fairly.

The plan for the 700b seems to be the very reverse of socialism: i.e. "from each according to his need, to each according to his means."

Wrong, it is:

From each according to the tax code, to each according to his power to write the tax code.

Yeah, it's idiots who don't believe in regulation like John McCain who got us into this mess. Now getting ourselves out of it's going to hurt everyone.

Sorry, but it don't work that way... You don't have much, which means that after this you'll have less, which means your screwed. Vote Democrat and you may be spared by their social services...

I plan on having less. I will vote, but I am real tired of the democrats selling us out.

Going to organize for single payer health care.

Politicians are just the actors that sit on the stage. The REAL power is always down the street a bit ... something Reagan illuded to when he had his inaguration moved to the other side of the White House..

But, the REAL answer is for the economic experts to respect and talk to the science experts and then actually listen to some historians. .. or dream land

Then explain the rise of the middle class in the late 19th century on the the mid 20th.

Please, stop paraphrasing Marx people. The man had no idea what he was talking about; he thought the revolution would happen in industrial nations, but it happened in places like Tsarist Russia, China and so forth.

The middle class rose on the backs of slaves and then on the exploitation of the land and resources of the indigenous. In the Unites States, there was an extra boost in the md 20th century in the form of subsidies to highways, gas, electric, and communications infrastructure drawn from fees to the urban poor.

Marx never said that.

Put power in the hands of the people? When i saw all those flag waving morons after 9/11, i lost all hope for the common folk. They can't think for themselves, and will always follow some weasel faced cheesewanker like junior George when the chips are down.

Even on this forum, which i think has a higher per capita intelligence level than society at large, we have people discussing the presidential election like it actually means something - like there's actually a difference between Republican and Democrat (gimmeafuckingbreak).

Forgive my over the edge cynicism, but there are just too many stoopid people to build anything that makes sense. The big ones will always manipulate and eat the little ones. Cheers.

Guns?

Guns are a dime a dozen. What we need are organizers who are smart, compassionate, and self-effacing. We need programs that serve the people, protect the people, in our neighborhoods. We need smart, effective solidarity. We don't need trigger happy teens on the loose -- that is called a gang.

you could say a gang gained us our freedom from england

No you could not. We gained our freedom from England because we organized white men around the declaration of independence and formed an army that defeated the British mercenaries. By the way, we did that without mistreatment of the Hessian mercenaries, in fact, the vast majority of them stayed after the revolution and became American citizens.

There is a difference between and army and a teenage gang.

Que? Lets get something straight. Small government more than works. The bailout is a product of big government. (I hope it continues to not get passed) The reason they are even talking about a bailout is not the fault of "small government" but GREED. Well that, and BIG government telling banks "You need to give loans to those who can't afford them". The "people with a clue" are the ones who got us in this mess in the first place! You are so out of line here. [-X
