The (not yet) Recovered was much more fun. We need a good deletion to rile up the forum-goers and get the lurkers out of the woodworks. I'm actually semi-serious.

I find myself semi-agreeing... the only big problem is that we'd lose the fun long-running threads.

not meaning to upset anyone .. but many of those old threads are the core of forum stagnation. They represent a place for people to wallow in melancholy and regret for a golden age of posting!
"ahhh it's not like the old days .. i miss Blinky and Pongo so.. oh you remember when blah blah blah .. we won't see the likes of those days again! everyone is shit now, even me without so and so here!"

heh a mild exaggeration i am sure but cutting the dead-wood out aint such a bad idea.

My question is, how did anyone function before there was a history to wallow in?

Blinky and Pongo had it pretty good cause the forum was still new, or relatively, anyway. I mean, this site is only about 2 years old, right? Maybe 3?

So with the old stuff gone, there'd be less precedent to impede creativity. People wouldn't be saying "see, it's been done before here, here and here." When there's nothing new, anyway, it's just not ever so easily put in front of our faces in other media formats.

or, possibly, everyone could just not acknowledge the people who constantly refer to the past when they do, thus forcing them to either stop whining or start being interesting, ad not have o delete anything, giving the chance to go back and find something interesting or useful one day when you are bored. best of both worlds.

and they say the best way to initiate change and fresh thinking is to not ask, but to force, the old guard to follow the agenda of the mass...

just a thought

The problem isn't specific people. The fact of the matter is things get old on a forum with history. It's more of a mental thing. In a new forum, there'd be such a sense of excitement, like having a blank page in front of you. It's like a fresh start, and it's invigorating.

yeah, but to lose some of the value here in the old posts is kinda not worth it to just have something new...its much better to just say"i'm going to be original and creative", and if you cant, well then maybe you never really had anything to say...

Hence why I'm only semi serious.

On another note, I find it ironic that your name is legendkiller, and yet you're defending the status quo

It isn't that the "good old days" were any better...

It isn't that your choices are being narrowed because some things have been done before...

It doesn't have to do with the content in the forum. It has to do with YOU. At first, you found it exciting. Then the excitement calmed. Then it became a little boring at times. You want the old feeling back. But it won't come back, because it is a one-time thing. That initial excitement will never be felt by you again. Others are feeling it right now. Because they are new. Although when you whine about how much better the "good old days" were, you take a little bit of excitement away from them.

A lot of things are like this in life...exciting at first, but then it fades...

It's like a new girlfriend.

It's like heroine.

It's like kidnapping and torturing the paper boy.

The first time is always the best.

No, with the paper boy thing, it's still thrilling the third time.

Actually, the second one's best - that's the first time the new victim gets to hear the previous one still screaming.

Is that because you've gone and raised taxes on Joe the Paperboy?

You sick twisted monster!

So the second one's best because it's a first? 8-)

If we do delete this forum, I want the new one to be called Steal This Forum.
