Sarah Palin Takes Prank Call From "Prime Minister of France"

When she was asked, in a exaggerated french accent, about the Prime Minister of Quebec Mr. Richard Z. Sirios, "Have you met him recently? Did he come to one of your rallies?" She responded: "Uh, haven't seen him at one of the rallies, but it's been great working with Canadian officials in my role as governor..."
The prankster pretending to be President Nicolas Sarkozy told Palin that he told his good friend Canadian Prime Minister Steph Carse that criticism of Palin's inexperience in foreign relations was unfair.

Palin replied that he (Carse) is doing fine... (One could argue that her words imply she knows the man, but, at a minimum, she is representing that she knows about him). Yes, Steph Carse is doing fine, as a singer. It just happens that he is not the Canadian Prime Minister. Stephen Harper is the Canadian Prime Minister.

The prank call becomes more and more ridiculous... it becomes clear that Sarah Palin
a) Can't understand a word being said, so just tries to say pleasant things.
b) Actually thinks she's on the phone with the head of France, and tries to fake knowledge of what is being discussed.
or c) Realizes it's a prank call and is too stupid to get off the phone.
I am now terrified of a Palin presidency, if we elect John McCain and something goes wrong. George Bush did more harm than good... but Sarah Palin would be a joke. She's be such an unbelievable disaster on a scale ten times larger than any bad president we've had before. I am terrified, and will be watching the election very closely.

You can listen to the actual audio recording here...

I was shocked. When I showed the clip on youtube to my dad he said "No. This didn't happen."

I told him I heard it on MSNBC, and he of course laughed in my face.

"But dad, it was in all the other news channels too! We just saw it!"

"No. This is a hoax. I refuse to believe this happened."

"Well, don't believe it happened all you want, but I assure you, it's real!"

"Son, have a little skepticism! This is fake - that doesn't even sound like Palin"

*sigh*

My parents really suck sometimes.

He's probably assuming that some pranksters sent out a fake tape to all the media. Show him where Sarah Palin responded, admitting it's true.

Anyway, he'll find out you're right soon enough, and then he'll feel silly.

yea ink i feel for ya but denial isn't just a river in egypt. Unfortunatly most see what they wanna see and disreguard the rest. SCARY is an understatement as its an 80% chance mccain wont live out his first term. It's been said the job of president ages a person 4yrs to one.

We all know the affect Cheney has had in the whitehouse what kindof snafus are we in for with her as vice president. She could have insulted an ally in that conversation and not even known it. She acts like this is all a joke she should have some damn humility for the office she may be holding. I keep expecting her to come out in a swimsuit and sash next. Whats next?

Effect. Affect in this context is a verb ("We all know that Cheney has affected...", for instance), and while it does have a noun form, it's an archaic synonym for "mood" (the classic example that springs to mind being "his affect is constantly morose and unpleasant"), stemming from latin "affectus", meaning disposition.

+1 to literacy. ;-)

Yeah, I quoted the AP report to him, which just made him defensive. I can never win.

I advise a quiet demeanour (or demeanor? Crazy american spelling ;-) )of almost smug superiority.

Are your parents conservative, or just the typical "liberal, but there's no sense in getting too exited about things"?

Heh. Well, then I'm sure he'll come around eventually. Who knows, this may actually be an epic hoax fooling the media... if it hasn't been debunked in a day or two, then he'll stop denying it.

Oh, he's not denying it anymore - not that that stops him from not admitting he should have believed me.

Exactly the reason why I am not voting for McCain. I was still torn until I learned what this child was.
