I know plenty of guys who havent worked this year, as this progresses and if things get worse there will be more and more people in line for your so called obama bucks, starts out with guys signing up for unemployment ins. then getting in line for public aid to get food stamps, then gettin in line for help with paying the utility bills. This is beyond 1 group of people needing help, there are people on food stamps in nearly every zip code. people are losing their houses to foreclosure, how can you blame people for asking for help from obama, he ran on a platform of CHANGE, he was gonna fix things, hopefully he can.
... A true union man.
... You miss the point, friend. In this economy, anybody could be in a line like the one in that video, sure you're right.
... But these folks, I would bet my house on it, 80 to 90% have been in similar lines since they learned to walk.
...
No, I think you missed the REAL point. Are there idiots who want the world given to them? ABSOLUTELY! And yes, too many social programs have for too long been geared toward creating more dependence.
BUT that means the way those programs are administered needs to be changed, not that the idea of helping those who need it is bad. A BIG beef of mine is that if you are a noncustodial parent paying child support and get remarried, you get absolutely no credit under any federal or state program for the support you pay, NOR do you get credit for those kids as part of your household. BUT, women who get child support rarely have to count it. They have to count alimony, but not child support. Basically, a woman who gets married under this system is stupid. And believe me, no marriage is perfect, but when you have the government basically telling you to get a divorce... it gets pretty hard to make things work.
As for all this "no trickle down" attitude... My husband was just informed the entire plant ... about 30 people will be laid off for a week. Meanwhile, the 3 [adult] children of the owner get monthly checks of over $30,000 each .. they don't work there, that is their "share" of the profits.. something that will not be touched, even during the shutdown. Most of those 30 people make less than $40,000 a YEAR.
Oh, and about that 80-90% being in "similar lines" all their lives? ... Just talk to any local food bank, anyone dealing with homeless assistance. The rolls are filling with people who have never been on any kind of assistance before, who are truly ashamed to recieve it. And yes, you can count my family in that!
