Battleship [abandoned]

Have you ever played Battleship? Well, get ready for Battleship Conquer Club style! The format for this tournament is somewhat complicated, so be sure to read everything that follows. While this tournament is going to be rather long, freemiums are welcome as long as they can keep 2 slots open for the tournament.

It's been brought to my attention that this tournament could last a really long time (like over a year - a year of playing only the High Seas map). Any thoughts on cutting the field down to 32 instead of 64? Unless there are some major objections, I'm probably going to do so.

I think the tournament is going to last for a few years :lol: And I'd cut it to at least 32, perhaps even to 16. And, I'd suggest creating the teams according to ranking (highest and lowest and something like that :P), otherwise randomly you might assign 4 cooks in a team and 4 majors and that would be really boring and unfair. Oh, and to speed up the tournament a bit, I'd suggest you to add a rule that when placing ships on the board, then they can't be... "touching" each other. What I mean is that there should be at least 1 grid between 2 ships. Makes any sense? :P

except i cant guarantee playing past next april.....so if it does last longer you may need to replace me.

if you wanted to shorten it to you could shrink the board and number of ships to be sunk.

Also to make things a little more interesting, you could change the map for each round of battleship, so that if you win a round, you can play another on a fresh map. I have a feeling that playing that much high seas could get a little boring. :P

Yeah, some others have suggested that, as well. I'm going to look at adding some of the island maps. :)

I've updated the rules a bit. The changes are as follows.

Players & Teams (Old)
Players join this tournament individually. Immediately preceding the beginning of the tournament, all of the players will be randomly (random.org) divided into teams of four. The highest ranking player in each team becomes the team captain. Teams will compete against each other in a single-elimination bracket and will be seeded randomly (random.org).

Players & Teams (New)
Players join this tournament individually. Immediately preceding the beginning of the tournament, all of the players will be divided into teams of four. Players will be grouped by me in such a way as to make the teams as even as possible. The highest ranking player in each team becomes the team captain. Teams will compete against each other in a single-elimination bracket and will be seeded randomly (random.org).

Rounds & Games (Old)
Each team receives 7 ships to place on the board. These include an aircraft carrier (5 spaces), a battleship (4 spaces), two cruisers (3 spaces), two submarines (3 spaces), and a destroyer (2 spaces). At the beginning of each round, the team captains will send me their ship configurations via private message. Team captains are free to decide whether or not they will consult with their teammates when setting up their ships. Ship configurations may not be changed during a round. I will then setup the board for each team. These boards will not be available for public view, and will look similar to the following.
