2012 Major League Soccer [CANCELED]

PostPosted: Thu Mar 08, 2012 7:31 pm
by flexmaster33
ALERT: Feel free to sign up as a single...we only have two teams left to fill (Chicago and Salt Lake), and I will scramble together singles onto teams (three to a team).

TOURNEY DESCRIPTION:
* This is a team format tournament that will follow the 2012 Major League Soccer season. Open to freebie players, but must keep two slots open for this tourney. The MLS will expand to 19 teams this season (see team list at bottom)

Each MLS franchise will be represented by three (3) CC players, so find a couple teammates and sign-up or take your chances and sign up as an individual, although preference will be given to pre-formed teams.

FORMAT: 3 players per franchise
PLAY STYLE: Mostly 1 vs. 1 play along with a 3 vs. 3 team map for each match
FREEBIES?: Yes, but must keep 2 slots open
DURATION: The season starts March 15 and finishes with the playoffs in late-October/early-November.
FORFEITS: Players will have 48 hours to join their maps before receiving one reminder...after another 24 hours team captains will be contacted about making a replacement from the reserves list.

• The season —
The regular season will follow the true MLS schedule with games going out to teams on the same day as their real-life counterparts (or as close as possible). The league plays a 34-game regular season schedule. Teams earn three points in the standings for each win and one point for each tie. The season begins in mid-March and continues through the playoffs in October/November.

• Playoffs
The top five teams in each conference reach the playoffs.
The #5 qualifier travels to the #4 qualifier in a one-match knockout phase.
The Conference semifinals and Conference finals will be played in two-match aggregate format with the higher-seeded team hosting the second match.
The MLS Cup championship is a single match played at the site of the higher seeded team (team with the most regular-season points).

• Game breakdown
Team A’s backline vs. Team Bs forwards (3 maps)
Team A’s midfielders vs. Team Bs midfielders (4 maps)
Team As forwards vs. Team Bs backline (3 maps)
Goaltenders will be a 3-on-3 team map

• Scoring…
Players will get rated on their performance from 0 to 5
Win in 5 rounds or fewer…5
Win in 6-7 rounds…4
Win in 8-10 rounds…3
Win in 11-14 rounds…2
Win in 15+ rounds…1
Lose the game…0

Goalies…(triples map)
You get a +2 boost on the backline for a win and a -2 deficit for a loss.

Forwards vs. Backline is self-explanatory.
A team builds its attack by winning the midfield. Whichever side gets an edge in the midfield will have those points added to their forwards’ score. The losing midfield adds nothing to its attack.

Here’s a scoring example along with a graphic that will be used to show game play. Basically, all 11 players are represented on the field. Win your map to gain an edge in your part of the field, work together with your teammates to build enough of an advantage to create scoring opportunities.

Image

Kansas City attack FC Dallas attack —
Forwards gain +4 Forwards gain +3
Midfield advantage = +4 No midfield advantage
Total attack = +8 Total attack = +4

Match each team’s attack against the opposing goalie to come up with final numbers.
Kansas City +8 against Dallas goalie +2 = Kansas City +6 performance points
FC Dallas +3 against KC goalie -2 = FC Dallas +5 performance points

Teams score one goal for every 4 full performance points…thus the game ends in a 1-1 draw.
(A shootout would be used if this was a playoff match)

• Star players: (One bonus point added to score when winning a map)
Statistics will be kept for each team throughout the season, including each players’ total performance points. There will be three points in the season in which the “star” status will be upgraded…those breadowns are below to earn star status
May 1 — +20 rating
July 1 — +35 rating
Sept. 1 — +50 rating

GOALIE MAPS — (triples games — escalating, chained, sunny...maps switch every two weeks)
Image

SIGN-UPS –
Sequential turns are required, the other settings are up to you.

Teams listed below – 3 players per franchise.
Each player chooses their own home map and settings to be used for their unit of players.
Franchises must use three different maps – no repeats within the same team.
I also ask that each team designate one player to be team captain…so I have someone to contact if concerns arise during the season.

WINNER is the team that takes home the MLS Cup trophy at the end of the year.
Also approved for General Achievement medals for top scorers among 1) Forwards; 2) Midfielders and 3) Defenseman. This will be based on your +/- rating...CC player with the highest rating points for the season.

*Open - means this team is looking for singles to fill out the roster
*Red letters - Players with manual deploy

** FC Dallas is reserved for our reigning champions.

Also a heads up...I have a 1 vs. 1 singles version of the MLS season in mind, too.
That thread should be up tonight/Friday morning, so look for that if you prefer that style.

First-come, first serve on teams, so act fast. Must have all three members set to have it reserved.

Also, I've decided against running a separate singles tourney, so if you like MLS soccer this is it.

I'd like in, but no team. I played this tourney last year. Prefer a Canadian team, but whatever works...

team lists are updated...I've added the free agents (singles looking for a team).

Also when signing up if you can have your maps and positions ready it helps me keep it organized...if not, try to get that info on the board quickly. thanks, flex
