TOURNEY RULES
Let's celebrate some small-school college football where a true champion is crowned at the end of the year — the Football Championship Sub-Division (or I-AA).
Style: 1 vs. 1 game play
Pace: 5 maps per week (5 maps = 1 game)
Eligible: This tourney is open to premium players AND to freemium players as long as they keep pace with play (my discretion to drop players if missed games accrue)
GAME PLAY
All games are SEQUENTIAL…other than that all settings are accepted…and all maps are in play.
• The “Special Teams” showdown will be played on a different predetermined map for each week of the season…settings will be escalating, chained, foggy for those matches.
Maps for each week are listed at the end of this post.
SCORING
A scoring formula (see below) will reward players for quick victories. Each game will be broken into four quarters (four maps) along with a special teams battle.
That makes five total maps to decide each “game”, however total points will be used to determine the official winner — it is possible for a team to win just 2 of the 5 maps and still come out in front. Although I would expect winning 3 of 5 maps would most often land you a victory.
• In the case of overtime...each team will face off on the special teams map. Win in 9 rounds or fewer and win by a touchdown. Win in 10+ rounds and you win by a field goal.
SEASON
This is my first year doing an FCS football tourney, so I made the breakdown easy. 9 leagues of eight teams apiece...it resembles the real FCS landscape, but is not an exact replica. (Perhaps next season, I'll expand it to that). Each team will play a 12 game regular season -- 7 league games + 5 nonleague contests.
PLAYOFFS
Winners of the 9 leagues earn an automatic spot into the FCS bracket and 15 at-large berths will also be awarded for a 24-team playoff. The top eight seeds (based on RPI index and other selection committee criteria) will earn a first-round bye). The tournament champion is the team that wins the playoff bracket.
I will also request a General Achievement medal for the team that tops the RPI at the end of the regular season.
Game play is the same for the playoffs as the regular season with the higher seeded team hosting the game.
The championship showdown is the exception...each team will get home maps for 2 quarters in the final game.

Portland State 14 7 0 9 — 30
Weber State 3 3 7 7 — 20
1st quarter
• PSU wins in 6 rounds
2nd quarter
• PSU wins in 13 rounds
3rd quarter
• Weber wins in 11 rounds
4th quarter
• Weber wins in 17 rounds
• PSU FG*
*PSU wins special teams map in 13 rounds, so gets 1 FG (credited in the 4th Q).
• A scoreboard section will update scores throughout each week, while standings will be updated at the end of each week.
