An intruductionIn many sports, the career of an athlete goes through several phases, the professional stage being the latter. The athlete plays through his school years, all the way to his highschool. In many cases in some countries, the athlete enrolls in University before reaching the professional stage, the goal of his sporting life. Very few get to grasp that ultimate major title in any given sport most only dream of.
My new tournament will try to simulate in the form of a single competition the career of several players, representing their highschools, universities (or other superior studies institutions) and finally the professional sport clubs of their choosing.
After being found the three winners (highschool, university and pro-career), a final knockout will determine which player will earn the prize of a "lifetime" overcoming the odds and beating everybody else, becoming the player with the most successful career.
The competitionThere is no pre-defined number of players. Any number of people will be able to sign up for this tournament until December 1st.
When signing up I ask of you
to choose both the Highschool you want to represent (and tell me from which country is it from)
and your home map. If you don't choose a school, I will randomly attribute one. If you don't choose a map, you'll play your home games in random map selection.
Tournament StructureHighschool Stage 1: Players will be assigned to 3 or 4-player groups according to the geographical proximity of their countries. Randomization will be the further step in order to complete the placement. Everybody will play everybody home and away. Win = 2 points, draw = 1 point, defeat = 0. Top two players in each group advance to the Highschool stage 2, as well as they will be competing in the University Stage further down the road. The others will be eliminated.
Highschool Stage 2: Players will play each other in single 1vs1 games at random maps in a single-elimination bracket. If there is an odd number of players anywhere throughout the bracket, there will be eventually a semi final where one game has 3 players. The 2-player game will be composed of the player with most wins so far against the one with less wins. The 3-player game will have the others. Winner of the bracket qualifies for the Top Bowl Access Game.
University Stage 1: All the 1st and 2nd placed players in Highscool Stage 1 enter this part of the competition. I will ask everybody which is the University they want to represent. Swiss rounds will be played. Home and away. Win = 2 points, draw = 1 point, loss = 0. The number of rounds will be made according to the number of players at this stage. Top players will qualify for both University Stage 2 and Pro-Career Stage 1. If there are 32+ players at this stage, the top 16 will qualify. If the number varies between 16 and 31, 8 players will qualifiy. If it varies between 8 and 15, only the top 4 will be granted acess to further stages.
University Stage 2: Qualfied players will once again battle in random maps in a single-elimination bracket. Winner of the bracket qualifies for the Top Bowl Access Game. If the winner is the same as the Highschool Stage, he will qualify directly to the Top Bowl.
Pro-Carrer Divisional Stage: Once again, at the beginning of this stage, I will ask everybody to choose their professional sports team to represent. If there are only four players at this stage, a single group stage will be played. Players will play among themselves four times. Two home and two away. Top two players will qualify for the Pro-Final. If there are more than four players at this stage, they will be divided among two divisions: north and south. Everybody will play everybody in the division, home and away. Win = 2 points, draw = 1 point, defeat = 0. Winner of each division will play the Pro-Final.
Pro-Final: One game, best of three: home, away and random. Winner advances to the Top Bowl. If the winner has won the Highschool and University stages as well, he will be immediately declared champion.
Top Bowl Access Game: Only one game will be played. The University Stage winner will play at his home map against the Highschool Stage tournament. Winner advances to the Top Bowl.
Top Bowl: One 1vs1 game, best of three. home away and random. Winner is crowned the champion of The Career competition.
EDIT: Important note - the two "home and away" games in the championship stages compose one match. That makes it a possibility for draws to exist. If a player wins the "home" game and the "away" game, he will win 2-0. If he wins one and loses the other, he will draw 1-1 with his opponent.
TiebreakerPlayers tied at the end of any group stage will play a playoff game to decide who goes through.
