Battle of the Ranks (36/40) - 4 majors or above needed

Postby DiM on Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:30 am

there are all kinds of speculations about ranks being proof of skill or on the contrary ranks being nothing close to skill.

i think the best way to settle this is with a battle.

i want to host such a battle and i'm thinking like this:
40 players. 10 for each of the following groups:

2500+
2000-2499
1500-1999
1-1499

players will be divided in 10 groups of 4 players each.
all games will be 4 player standard on all maps.
all the other settings will be random:
seq/freestyle
no cards/flat rate/escalating
adjacent/chained/unlimited
fog/no fog

all participants must have premium. as batches of 10 games will be played at once.

i'm also thinking about adding a maximum rounds limit. if after 30 rounds a game is still not over then that game is considered a loss for everybody.

deadbeats will be removed and replaces with a reserve. each player will have 24 hours to join his game from the moment he receives his pm.

after all the games in the groups are finished we'll have 10 group winners. we count the group winners and see from what area of rank they come. what ever area has more group winners wins.
in case of a tie further games will be played but i doubt this will happen. i mean with all the settings and all the maps surely luck will have very little influence and thus skill should prevail.

btw the winner will get a custom banner for his sig.

participants: (will be added to the list according to points, highest first)

why?

if the high ranks are truly so good then they should not lose to a cook.

plus what do you prefer? recognition for being a great player or points that simply mean you found a way to get them?

if you play only for points then no use reading because you won't sign in this battle.

in but you should further sub divide - could i sugggest you split the 1000 - 1799 category in two ie 1000 -1399 and 1400 - 1799

my score 1222 (so based on all those that think the scoreboard is the be all and end all there are 5,885 active players better than me  )

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

I like speed freestyle, but that won't happen, I stink at 4 player, I'd be a bad representative of the 2500+

although there are a number of the current / former colonels that lost to me previously as well as several of the current majors and captains

rebel and govegan are added.

@rebel. i'm happy with the way ranks are split because:

to be bellow 1000 points you must either stink or have no interest in points
to be above 2500 you must either be very good/cheat/find a way to legally get loads of points
the 1800-2499 is a place where many promising people plateau
the 1000-1800 range is fairly average in my opinion. to split this in half would be bad since from my experience i haven't seen much differences between a 1300 player and a 1700 one. plus the people around 1400 tend to have big variations and that would be bad as i want people that are rather stable in their respective category.

@risktaker. as your name suggest you like taking risks. well risk your points and join. what's there to lose? if you are good enough to deserve those points then you'll have them after this tourney and even more since you'll win many games. if you aren't as good as your points suggest then you're simply the type that takes advantage of 1 thing to boost his score.
like the triple players or the speed freestyle 1v1 vs noobs or the map specialists, etc.

wouldn't it be great to be able to organise tournaments where there are no points at stake.

i predict you will fail to fill the 2500 + category or the less than 1k category

i have a doubt you will fill anything 1800 plus...

Too many people that just care about points.

Also most people above 1800 or 2000 only play private games... I think I am one of the few that still sets up public 1v1 and 3 player games

the less than 1k will be filled. i have no doubt about this there are plenty of people bellow 1000 willing to join.

the 2500+ is indeed a problem that's why i made the thread in GD not tournaments.

plus i joined so i need just 9 more majors or above. are they really that scared? do they really value their precious points so much?
i think other will step in and fill the first category. or at least i hope so. otherwise all the majors are a bunch of point muggers that are too afraid of a challenge.

In, if there's still space? You said there would be ten people per group, but you only have 4 slots in your first post.

sorry mate but you must be premium. i forgot to mention this. remember there will be at least 71 games played not all at the same time of course but still too much for a freemium.

I believe rank is just a sorta general indicator about how good in generally u've been since u joined. and I know for the first few months I was an idiot. But since then I've figured out some more strategies, and my rank is going back up. It's above 1000, and I sure hope it stays that way.

I'm in...

if u don't have a problem with me being a freemium.

EDIT: lolz i just read the post above this one, ok i see i can't join eh? fine. u really should add this to ur origional post somewhere obvious

EDIT EDIT: o i see u have... perhaps make it a bit more obvious?

P.S. Ur going to have some trouble getting lots of less than 1000-point premiums, methinks.
