This tournament is a 1v1 tourney that follows the 2009 Major League Baseball schedule. Just as in MLB, each player will play a total of 162 games, with four teams in each league advancing to the playoffs--the three division winners as well as the second-place team with the best record (the wild card).
When signing up, you must fill in the following form, with the details explained below. See my signup for an example. Please check the division lists (which are hidden below using spoiler tags) before you sign up to see if your favorite team and/or map have already been taken.(Note: You can choose a classic team if you would like; I prefer you do this only if the newer version of that team is still available so putting you in a division is easy. For example, Sackett58 chose the Brooklyn Dodgers and will play the 2009 LA Dodgers' schedule.)
Player: Team: Home map: Rotation:
(Each entry: spoils, fortifications, fog)
Home maps: Since every team has a unique stadium, every player must specify a unique home map. You'll play half of your games on this map, so make sure you're comfortable with it! Click below for a list of the maps we'll be playing:
Rotations: Your "rotation" normally refers to the five starting pitchers a team uses; here, it'll refer to five unique sets of game settings you use for all of your games. All games will be sequential, but you must specify the spoils (none/escalating/flat rate), fortifications (adjacent/chained/unlimited), and fog (sunny/foggy). No two groups of settings can be the same. Feel free to specify names/numbers for each "pitcher" if you like; if you don't, I'll just fill them in for you. (Note: Your pitcher names can be anything--modern pitchers, retired pitchers, or just 5 names you like.)
Choosing game settings: Each game will be played on the home team's map and pit two "pitchers" against each other. Obviously, each game can only use one group of settings; more successful "pitchers" increase your likelihood of using your settings. We'll track the win/loss record of each individual "pitcher" (whether those settings are used in a game or not), then use those records together with random.org to determine which settings are used in the game. (If you're really interested in knowing the exact details of how I intend to handle this, let me know.)
Changing your rotation: If you find a particular set of settings to be very unsuccessful, you can "send that pitcher to the minors" and replace him with a different "pitcher," provided that:
The "pitcher" being replaced has made at least 5 starts.
The new "pitcher" is a completely unique group of settings that you have not already used ...
... unless you are "recalling" a "pitcher" you previously "sent down." A "pitcher's" won/lost record will not reset when he is replaced.
I'll be playing in this tourney--I'm not going to make a tourney with an idea I like and not join it!
Suggestions for changes are certainly welcome, as I'm sure to forget or screw something up. If I do change something in the tournament, I will give you appropriate notice.
Premium membership is required for this tournament, since games will be likely be sent out one series at a time, probably with 2 series sent out per week.
No foe lists--if an opponent is on your foe list, you must remove that player.
I reserve the right to remove a player from the tournament for excessive deadbeating, although I will send that player a warning before doing so.
You will have 72 hours to join games once they are sent out. I'll send out a warning after 48 hours; fail to join your games after that point, and I will look to replace you with a reserve.
If a reserve takes over a team, I'd like the home map to remain the same--what team changes stadiums in the middle of the season? I will, however, allow the reserve to immediately change the rotation, just as any new manager might, with the caveat that records for "pitchers" who have been used throughout the season do not change. I'm willing to reconsider these points if we have trouble filling open spots.
Last, but certainly not least: please post game results in this thread or send me the results via PM.

Hey, look on the bright side--after last year, Yankee fans and players have more in common than ever: both groups got to watch the entire playoffs from home.
Sackett58 wrote:Can I pick an old team
Sure, although I'd prefer you do this only if the team that replaced them is still available. That way, I can easily slot the old team into the new team's spot and schedule. So you'll be playing the L.A. Dodgers schedule and competing in the NL West.
the.killing.44 wrote:slow down … you can use old-time pitchers?!
I don't see why not. You can name your pitchers whatever you want. Choose 5 modern pitchers, 5 retired pitchers, or 5 characters from the cast of 'Heroes'--doesn't matter to me. If I don't get names, I'll use the projected rotation for this year.
Note that using old-school pitchers isn't going to give you any advantage--putting Cy Young and his 511 wins on my Sox team wouldn't matter, because only the W/L numbers from this tourney's "season" will be used when choosing game settings.

This sounds like fun, although I see Vexx has already taken my favorite team... So instead I'll go with: Player: plash.ricrem Team: Toronto Blue Jays Field: Canada
Rotation Roy Halladay (FR/chained/sun) Jesse Litsch (FR/unlimited/sun) Shaun Marcum (none/chained/fog) Dustin Mcgowan (FR/adjacent/sun) David Purcey (escalating/Chain/sunny)

Indeed I did. And I find it funny that a guy using "Bosux" is picking on my originality.
On a more serious note, welcome to vexx, Pixar, Sackett58, acores2005, and plash.ricrem! 11 teams down, with 1 division (the NL East) completely full (now that slickstick has been randomly assigned to the Nationals with his permission).

I wasn't saying anything about originality, just humor. And Bosux isn't my joke.
Something tells me we should keep our Yankee-Red Sox bickering out of this thread.
