ORIGINAL DRAFT
Image

Why?
1. To put the Galápagos Islands and its treasures on CC.
2. To provide a similar small quick map concept that works slightly differently from AoM:Magic.

Background/Concept
The map is based around the Galápagos Island east of Ecuador, some of the dive areas, artistic license reefs and waterholes required for survival.
Bonuses are thus awarded for combinations of these items, plus for each natural treasure collected.

No of Territories.
8 starting diving reefs, all others are neutral 1 or 2s depending on location from lugger.
Approx 63 at present, with view to reduce once gameplay is discussed.

Firstly, it's spelled: "Galápagos"

Second, I really wanted to do a map of the Galapagos, but I suck a graphics :( .

A suggestion: maybe have some sort of a bonus for holding a certain number of islands? Like 2 islands= +1, 3 islands = +2, or something along those lines.

Thanks I GOT SERVED.....slight embarrasement at the spelling (dislexia.)

1. Fixed.....can't do anything about the poll without annoying Coleman.
2. Well, you got your map of Galapagos, that's got to be something good.
3. OK, please keep that in mind for later...at this stage i am not interested in it as some of the islands are not terts, and I want this map to be a strictly quick game market map - that's why the luggers have the bonuses. :)

Oh, I thought you were referring to the Galapagos giant tortoise, which inhabits all of the islands. marine turtles are everywhere, but giant tortoises are unique to the galapagos.

Mmmm, didn't my research very well.
I'll change it next version. Thanks d.gishman :)

EDIT// Actually i am going to leave this as a marine turtle...because it occupies the sea, whereas i beleive the tortoise occupies the land areas.
However i might add the tortoise to future versions on the land.

love it

kinda confused though...one example. How does Lugger Wolwin connect with the other part of the map? luggers can't all connect because then you'd border everyone at the start.

Soooo, I just can't tell at the moment.

I love the look, but the colours blend in quite a bit. I mean it's the ocean/reef so it's supposed to but at the same time, I'd like it more if it didn't since this is a game afterall.

I'll wait 'till I know what's going on more before additional comments.

Yes that right...connection right from the start. But now you've brought that up obviously i need to rethink this...i don't want it to be the same as Magic, but similar.

Yes the colours are supposed to blend in quite a bit.

For the colours, maybe make those territory borders a bit sharper. I think this would help a lot. In quite a few places I have trouble seeing them end.

I have a gameplay comment too.

So the best bonus to go for to start is probably the lugger.

I start with a reef and get that lugger. Next turn I get my regular 3 +2 for the lugger and +3 for the snorkel and lugger = +8

Reef five can do this with two kills T1 then Lugger.

Now, next turn I take those armies and go after someone else. I kill him. Chances of this happening in a six player game say...Well probably a lot higher than we want.

Now, I feel a bit bad because at the moment I'm not quite sure of a way to 'fix' this. I'll ponder it a bit but I'm sure you will consider this as well.

Hmmm....

I haven't had a proper look at gameplay, so can't really comment on that at the moment, but I do like the look of this map - you seem to have an aesthetic eye!

Just a couple of things I noticed:

1. Reef 7 needs to have the same 'white' appearance as the other reefs.

2. The heads and legs of the Giant Tortoises are quite hard to see, which makes them look like blobs.

3. The territory off Espanola is labelled E3, but there is no E1 or E2...

That's it for now.

PS How do you make your maps look so good??

Summary of movements Reef to Luggers.

Reef Lugger Kills
1 Wolwin 3
2 Pintmar 2
3 Genocruz 2
4 Santiago 2
5 Tortiga 2
6 Floreola 3
7 Cristocruz 2
8 Floreoloa 3

Now that needs fixing...there are three terts that need adjuisting down to 2 kills, so that everyone has even chance of getting a luggar.

Or do you think it should be taken up to 3 kills to get to each lugger.

After that, i guess it depends on what resources you want to gain.
Some are closer, so some will of like every other game have to fight harder and longer. Some will be luckier.

Will fix all these for you next version, and look forward to hearing yo-ur comments on existing/possible gameplay.

Hmmmmmm......a little bit artistic i guess...you know...even portions left and right brain. LOL

Minor typo, you have the accent over the wrong A. The accent is over the second A, not the third.

As edbeard said, some of the borders are somewhat unclear.

Is there any way that you could make the turtles stand out a bit more? They aren't very noticable on certain islands.

A question about gameplay: Do the Luggers connect to all reefs? Or do they all connect to each other?

Maybe if you gave them all a thin outline that had a sharp contrast to the background.

Version 3

Small changes on this one:
1. redefined the borders a little more
2. moved some terts around for better definition and gameplay.
3. changed the graphic for the tortoises
4. Changed legend around
