Show the image instead of the link in the thread and you will get more feedback. I like the idea but it needs further development.

Well, the biggest problem that smacks me right off is that so many towns are in the wrong places. New Boston that far west? Round Rock a seperate territory from Austin and so very far away?

Territories need to be redrawn and renamed before issues of style or connections or playability can be properly addressed.

What map is this? New Boston is farther east than Mt. Pleasant.

Well firstly you need tocrop the top off and move tha bannar down-theres a lot of empty space

try dimming some of the coulers down a bit

change the background so it doesent stand out so much, gray or brown would be good to try

also make it textured

apart from that, good map. looking forward to seeing how it goes

Here are a number of changes I would suggest; mostly renames....

New Boston should be Paris....
Mount Pleasant should be Texarkana...
Laredo is misspelled..
Leaky to Del Rio,,,
Crystal City to Eagle Pass
Lliberty to Baytown or possibly make an Island outthere that couuld be Galveston.
Orange to Beaumont
Big Spring is singular not plural.
Mieral Wells to Fort Worth
Port City is either Bay CIty or Port Lavaca
Either move the border or switch Amarillo and Panhandle...AMarillo is in other territory..(Perhaps use Dumas instead of Panhandle and redraw that)

really dont like the look of Mason.... Agree that round rock is an Austin suburb and shouldnt be used ..

Game play issues later, but there some problems there too...

not bad....

-text is too small, i have to squint to read it. (bigger map will give you more room)
-too much green space around the outside. increase the size of the playfield in the overall map.
-two yellow 'continents' are too similar in color. maybe make one more orange or more brown?
-text in the legend should have a stronger outline, its hard to read against the white background

It's not just New Boston and Mt Pleasant--it's nearly every town on the map. You should completely redraw the territories with a more precise map.

However, I definitely think Texas should have its own map. It's like a whole other country, as they say.

I don't think it needs to be called Texas Wars, unless it's actually about some war that happened in Texas. It's out of sync with the other maps on the site.

what do you plan to do with the "lonestars"? are they there to signify something? also, make the barbed wire more visible, i can barely see it

The more I think about it Galveston Island should be on any Texas map. It is historically significant and would remind players there is more to the state than desert....Id be glad to help you with ideas on realism.. Llived in 5 of your 7 regions at one time or another

I really like the trees bordering the Piney Woods and I also like the Mountains around the hill country, but I think the part further west w/ mountains should be changed to barbed wire. It's very flat out there, but certainly is ranch country. I also like the use of barbed wire seperating South Texas and the Gulf Coast, since that region is famous for King Ranch.

Please put all map updates in the original thread so everyone can see how the map progresses. It also allows for a meaningful conversation about the map and limits the insane amount of clutter that would exist on this board if a new thread was made for each update.

Anyway, it does look pretty good

Well---

While some territories have improved (like, Paris is a much better name for the location), there are still tones of problems, both with territories' shapes and locations and with how they're named. When I have a bit more stamina I'll go through all of them and tell you the problems, but you could do that yourself if you just compared YOUR map to a REAL map of Texas.

However, I think it might be best and easiest just to completely erase all the territories and start anew. The "continents" are fine, except that some need their names changed (especially the one called South Texas, or whatever), but many of the territories have serious problems. Perhaps the best case in point is Mason. There's no reason whatsoever for it to have that long tail.

Anyway, I really wish you'd take my advice and just either completely redraw the territories (not necessarily the continents) or simply go through territory by territory and compare your map to a map of Texas with all the correct city names in the correct locations.

Keep going

Postby Kann on Tue Jan 16, 2007 12:27 pm

Keep working .. This is making progress....Texas needs a map....

There are some definate gameplay issues, but as others have said getting the territories together is step one...

Chnages that must be made IMO

The city is Big Spring not Big Springs (mistake is VERY common)
Sweetwater is one word not two

That barbed wire at the bottom is pretty good.. There is no place on earth flatter than Midland Texas.. so mountains in that are very unnatural...the barbed wire would be perfect...Dunno what you need to do to make that work

The long hooks for Seguin and Mason are very distracting.

If it was me, I would not use E/W teriitories in the panhandle... stack them N/S so that Panhandle is above Amarillo and accessable only from Amarillo...

I can't comment on names / area geography and all that but if you're gonna have mountains they need to completely cover the border. Also what are you going to do about the huge unused area in the top left?

That region (or at least much of it is often called the Blacklands... (the soil is unusually dark)
