Flame Wars Removed

Postby Hyasri on Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:05 am

Unlike the beautiful colo(u)r scheme we launched on April 1st as an April Fools joke, the removal of Flame Wars was no joke. We have given this a lot of thought and consideration and agree that Flame Wars no longer fits into the future vision for the site. It was becoming more clear that the flames were spilling out of that forum and taking up more moderation time to sort out.

We were also concerned about the unfriendly atmosphere this was generating for new people. I realise this will be an unpopular move with some of you, but I can assure you a lot of thought has gone into this.

Peace & Love will also be removed very shortly, that was fun while it lasted :P

Poor choice. A lot of people will oppose this decision, and expect to see a rise in game stalking. ;) I can predict this will cause more work than it sorted out.

You're likely correct, in the short-term. In the long-term, I suspect that they will succeed in creating a "cleaner", more "family-friendly" ConquerClub. They have already started to show less leniency in what will be tolerated in game chat. (see latest codeblue1018 thread in C&A for evidence)

Temporarily. People who do so will be told to stop, and if they don't, they will lose the privilege of posting in the forums. It will definitely be a pile of extra work for the mods/admins for the first while, but they have made it clear that they know this, and are willing to deal with it in order to shift the overall atmosphere of these forums. It may appear, occasionally, that the mods are in over their heads, but I have no doubts that their dedication, and honest desire for a better site will not be for naught.

It's all intended for the best but what a boring place they have planned out for us.
the only drama on the fora is when they shut something or change something we liked... then the disgruntled 'nay sayers' are moved to passion from sipping their ice-tea!

Although I don't post in Flame Wars, I do read it quite often because it has some quite interesting and humorous threads. I guess completely removing it wouldn't be such a good idea. Instead, you could just lock the entire forum but still allow everyone to view it(CC history maybe?).

:o Probably a good ridance, but where will you now move the Flames??? :?

 In a Prison for Flaming Thread??? ;)

I'm far from a flamer, but I do want to see some posting leave the forums they aren't suppose to be in! Anyway, I'm sure you have something to "replace" it in the back of your mind don't you?

There have been suggestions for a user group for flamers. I think that is a good idea - but - limit it to premium members who demonstrate with credit card that they are adults.

I look forward to this as it means more forum/game vacations for those members who partake in such actions and eventually we can rid the site of forum trolls who aren't here to have fun playing a game.

(I just keep laughing at the fact I said all this about a month ago in Off Topic and got flamed by the flamers for doing so. Look who was right.)
