Freestyle Double-Turn "Loophole" is Closed

Freestyle games have a big plus - they move along quicker. Unfortunately many players find it unfair that under some conditions freestyle allows you to play back-to-back turns. While back-to-back turns had already been blocked when the last player triggers a new round before it expires, this could still happen when someone missed a turn or when the round expires as someone is playing.

As of now, the last player to end their turn is blocked whether or not the round expires early. If any players are mid-turn as the round expires, it is considered as if they ended their turn last. In the case where all active players are blocked, the blocks are cancelled (no point in making everyone wait, right?). As always, the blocks affect entire teams in team games and the blocks end once an opponent begins their turn or half the round passes, whichever comes first.

Surely this change will be controversial as some players enjoyed using the tactic of taking back-to-back turns. However, it's clear the majority does not like it and this change will make freestyle more popular, fairer, and quicker.

While this change will have less impact on freestyle speed games, it is applied to them as well for consistency and to quicken up "no spoils" speed games where some players would never end their turns for tactical reasons.

Along with the gameplay changes, a new status icon Image (thanks, Tr0y!) will appear next to the username to indicate when a player is waiting for opponent to begin. Until now, we would show Image in such cases but it could be ambiguous as to whether the player is blocked or has already taken the turn.

In casual double games, this actually CREATES double turns.

If you look at Game 5499055, the log states:

2009-08-28 15:04:48 - c3po ended the turn and got spoils
2009-08-28 15:04:48 - Incrementing game to round 3
2009-08-28 15:26:56 - christian8 received 3 troops for 11 regions

They weren't even trying to double turn, but when green ended the blocked icon came on himā€”and only him. His teammate was allowed to play (and break our bonus).

Ah... a few games were not updated properly to the new gameplay. I corrected the remaining ones by hand so you should not see any more of this :)

so what about the people that play asassin freestyle on doodle. if nobody ends then whom starts?? we cant all start?? great update though lack.. would have loved a battle royale though

I will personally be joining as many freestyles as i can and using delay tactics to win games just to prove that this is a bad fix...

What, if anything, does this mean for current games? I have a 'sequential' game that was turned into a game with 2 green lights back on April 18 because of a site hiccup. Would it be possible to put this fix into effect with this game so said loophole can't be used? (game #4433846)
