[UI] Display Value of Flat Rate Spoils

Postby hecter on Tue Jan 16, 2007 7:52 pm

When in a game with cards that are flat rate, have a little table to show what are worth which.

When in a game with cards that are escalating, show how much the next set will be worth.
MOD EDIT: The second suggestion was implemented, but the first is still not.

One of the Greasemonkey scripts you can install into Firefox does this. It's very handy.

If you don't have Firefox, get it. Then get Greasemonkey. Then the script. :D

Displaying Flat Rate Spoils

Postby Attila the Fun! on Tue Sep 29, 2009 3:20 pm

Concise description:
  • We should display the worth of Flat Rate spoils below the map, just as we do with Escalating Spoils.

Specifics:
  • I often play games with Escalating Spoils, and it's easy to see what the next set of spoils will be worth: it's always listed directly below the map. But when I play with Fixed Rate Spoils, I always have to go into the "Instructions" section of the site to see what they're worth, since I don't have it memorized. Could we get a simple "Flat Rate Spoils are worth 4 for red, 6 for green, 8 for blue and 10 for mixed." posted beneath the map on games with Fixed Rate Spoils?

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • It will make it easier to play games with Fixed Rate Spoils by eliminating the need to memorize their worth or constantly check in "Instructions."

I had forgotten that the flat rate spoils value I see every game isn't standard issue but a BOB feature. :D

yeah, some of us are smart enough to be able to remember the value of the spoils without using cheats... i don't see a need for this suggestion, as the poster i quoted has stated he can get this through one of the plug-ins readily available to anyone that wishes to use them...-0

I usually play Escalating, so I don't bother memorizing Flat Rate. Also, I play a similar "game of strategy and risk" on other sites with different flat rate values, so it's kinda confusing. BTW, the other sites all list their Spoils values next to the map.

haggispittjr wrote:why dont you write it down on a peice of paper and tape it to your computer screen?

Because it's 2009. Also, I'm playing on a laptop so I can't really tape things to the side.

jammyjames wrote:its just extra coding work lack doesnt need to know.

Is it that much extra coding? We've already got the values listed for Escalating Spoils, and that has to be updated throughout the game. Compared to that, adding a simple static sentence should be nothing.

if you would stop this nonsense, and spend the same amount of time on memorizing small things. you would be ok.

if you want to talk about "other sites", then why dont you go back to them. i dont think you are a premium member. so what exactly have you done here? other than bitch and whine about something stupid?

Show Number of troops for Flat Rate Spoils

Postby Grifter on Sun Mar 17, 2013 2:49 pm

Concise description:
When a player is presented the screen for selecting a set of spoils to turn in for deployment then doing a "mouse over" of the 3 colors will show the potential number of troops. This is for Flat Rate only.

Specifics/Details:
Is it just me or do other players forget how many troops to get for a set or red or blue or green or mixed set? I have to open another browser tab and then go to the Instructions to look it up. It would be a nice handy feature if by putting my mouse over the colour it would then display the number of troops. For example of mouse over of red would display the text "4 troops".
An alternative is to display it as full text without a mouse over ie. red (4 troops), green (6 troops), blue (8 troops) or mixed (10 troops).

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
This will not bring about world peace or save the masses but will add a simple help.

when you hover over a red card how will it know you are hovering over a red set and not a rainbow set?

Yes I do forget things. When someone asks my age I have to do the math to figure it out. Course at my age it is not worth celebrating anymore.

I am also thinking of new players. This is a simple change that would benefit them.

I like this suggestion. It took me a long time to realize that in flat rate games, not all sets are created equal. This is way different than any other version of Risk I've played.

This was originally archived, but has never been rejected, I also found some of the posts in [implemented] presumably based on the fact that there is an Addon that does it?

Yeah this would be helpful, every new player I brought to the site wants to know this info.
Every single one asks.

then direct them to the Instructions tab at the top of every page.

this is a useless suggestion. the amount of spoils in Flat rate does not change, EVER.

the amount of spoils in Escalating changes every cash so to assist players with scrolling through the log and counting the cashes a line was added.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR FLAT

It if were easy for a new player to find this information I would agree but it's not. Navigating through this site to actually find what it is you are looking for has always been an unnecessarily awkward process. It's just not very user friendly in that respect.
I think this should be enacted for the above reason. It's a strange system(flat rate) so having it in front of you is not an unreasonable request, especially if you don't have a good memory for numbers.
