Territories borders graph

Postby barrycarter on Sat Aug 14, 2010 6:44 pm

I sometimes can't tell which territories border each other on a map,
so I used graphviz and a Perl script to create:

which can hopefully help someone else too.

DISCLAIMER: this is experimental + far from perfect.

Very nice work! It's always good to have another way of looking at things. Many people use the Map Inspect feature of BOB to get this kind of information, but it is icon-oriented, which has its pluses and minuses (less likely to overlap, but not as obvious as linear connections), and not everyone can use BOB (which requires Greasemonkey and Firefox, or possibly the Chrome browser). These diagrams are available to all who have a browser. Queen_Herpes will thank you.

There was a tool once that would draw lines directly on the maps, but the link was broken last time I checked.

It's fairly easy to create maps with lines (which I realize is different from what you said), but the edges cross each other a lot. I sort of compromised and used graphviz to tweak the edges.

It probably wouldn't be hard to write a greasemonkey script that overlays a transparent map (with arrows) over the play map hmmm....

Also, you do not differ bombardment from assault. Dotted lines for bombardment?

Actually, there's no bombard at all right now (the source code hopefully has a passing comment that mentions this). That's probably next on the todo list.
